hi Randy - is there a code to pick off the 'Forward Annual Dividend Rate' vs. using the 'D' code to extract the 'Trailing Annual Dividend Yield' ?
i did check the documentation and none specified but thought there might be one.
thanks

Nope. Yahoo doesn't provide it on the CSV file.

I did that and here is the answer I received copied below. I am using IE and Firefox, so that is not the problem. If others are still having the problem, as I am, you may also want to let YAHOO! know, so they work on it

Speed-up process time

Hi Randy, I was hopping you can give me advice with something.
I have an Excel file for each company i follow, with 8 years worth of balance sheets, several finantial ratios, several price ratios, industry ratios, etc, etc.. much of the info is uploaded with your great Addin product, saving me a lot of time (before that I fed the spreadsheets manually!..Thanks Randy!). All this ratios/info results in a "score" for the company. Then I have another "group" file were I group all the tickers with their respective "score" and some other info, and sort them out, so I can do research only on the companies that have a good scorecards, and not waste time with companies with poor scorecards (i.e, poor financials, poor ratios, price too high, etc)... Each company file takes about 20-25 seconds to open, as it retreives info from several diferents web pages (Yahoo finance, MNS, ADVFN, Morningstar, etc) and the group file takes about 10 seconds as it is fed with links to each of the company files. I have over 500 company files. So in order to update the hole thing I have to first open the group file, and then open the 500+ company files, and thus the hole process takes more than 3 hours.... And it complicates more because after I open 30 files, an erros pops up saying i have too many web pages open, so I have to do this process 30 files at a time, I open 30, save, close, and then open 30 other files, save, close, etc, etc...
So I was wondering if you have a tip for me so I can speed up this process.
Thanks,
Steven

Sorry. The add-in just isn't intended for that level of use. And,
personally, I don't like to see people using it to access the free data
sources so heavily.
The best thing you can do is come up with a simple screen that can narrow
down your company list to the meaningful contenders, FIRST, before using the
add-in to get more detailed information. In essence, a pre-scorecard
scorecard.

Are you re-retrieving 8 years worth of data every time? If so, I think you might save a bunch of time by saving the static info (as many prior years as possible) and retrieving only what is new.

If the data is on the same page as the current year, the web page will
already have been retrieved, so it really wouldn't speed things up that
much.

Randy, please don't think I`m a professional tanking advantage of free stuff to profit.... I`m just an analist in a third world southamerican country that invest my own money (thats not much) in my own spare time. As I`m used to read a financial spreadsheet I first did a simple spreadsheet to analize companys before I invested, but over time (10 years) this spreadsheet has grown in sofistication and it took me about 45 min to update one, so I could only do 2 or 3 a day after work, and I had to update each file every quarter as new financials where available.... That is until I found your great product that makes all the work, leaving me time just to focus on doing due dilligence in my spare time.
I`ve tryied simplifying, but there are so many different variables that can make a company attractive, that its hard to simplify. Thats what makes investing in stocks so challenging, rewarding and fun. Anyway thanks again for your product and your time.

I do this hole update only on weekends, because of the time it consumes...But ideally the only thing that needs to be updated everyday is the price of the stock (as the spreadsheet calculates everything else). The financial part of the spreadsheet (that I have it in different tabs: one tab for yearly financials, another tab for quarterly financials, and another tab for price, ratios, etc) need to be updated every 3 months, when a new statement is available. Since everything is in the same file, everything is updated when I open it. It would be nice if only the price updates each time I open the file, and the financial part is updated uppon request... you know, putting an alert that tells me when new financials are available, and only then I update that part of the spreadsheet.

Take a look at the smfUpdateDownloadTable process (see "Links" area of the
group for more info).
You could "compartmentalize" your data for how often it needs to be updated
using this process, which stores the data as values instead of recalculating
formulas each time. Then make your other process do VLOOKUP() functions to
retrieve these stored values instead of having to retrieve the data from the
Internet each time.
For example, since you only need to update your financial statements data
once per quarter, just do it when new earnings are available. You can even
do it ONLY for those companies where you're expecting updated financials,
since the process goes until a blank line. Just sort the data by the last
date of the financials and update those that are near requiring updates.
Depending on the source of your data, some do have a "Statement available
date" -- so you could estimate when the next quarterly or annual financials
will be available. Or, the Finviz and Zacks screeners do have a field that
indicate when the next earnings will be available -- you could grab that for
ALL companies in a single Internet access, then just use that to trigger
which need to be updated.
Other data you can update as necessary.
At one point, early on, I actually had the add-in updating a database for
RCHGetElementNumber() data elements, and then the function had a parameter
so that it could be directed to retrieve the data items from that database
instead of from the Internet.

Yahoo Quote failures - work-around?
Posted by: "MikeM" mikemcq802@yahoo.com mikemcq802

I have also been experiencing Yahoo Quote accuracy problems over the past couple weeks. I have a couple spreadsheets I've used for more than a year which retrieve array-entered quotes. These have worked flawlessly until recently.
I get a quote, it's just not always today's quote. It's not unusual to get one from a week ago - or a week ending quote rather than the current.
Once I realized the quotes weren't random but valid quotes just for the wrong day I now retrieve the date in the quote request to ensure its the day I expect. E.G., today, on Aug 10 it's not unusual to get quotes returned with an Aug 2 date. The quote is right for Aug 2, it's just not supposed to be returned on the 10th.
I use Randy's "refresh" macro and have that as a button in the spreadsheet to speed re-tries. It usually only takes a couple clicks to get all the quotes correct. Annoying but fairly quick.
In one spreadsheet I have 4 separate array-entered quote retrieval blocks. Interestingly, an array of quotes is either all-right or all-wrong. But, it's not unusual to have 1 array of quotes be from a different date than another array of quotes in the same spreadsheet.
I have IE's cache set to "Every time I visit page" per Randy's documentation.
I cannot mimic this failure using IE and downloading CSV quotes. If I could, I'd submit it to Yahoo!

I suspect they have one server that hasn't been updated since Aug 2nd, since
prices from that date seem to be a consistent symptom among different people
having the issue.
It could be you can't mimic the problem manually because that server is only
used if most of the other servers are busy -- as it might be if you are
updating a large number of RCHGetYahooQuotes() functions at one time. Each
request may be rotated to a different server to level out the load. That
server might be the one of "last resort" -- or just a random occurrence.

You are probably right in that it is an isolated server or database mirror that is off. But, it can't be that it's just stuck on Aug 2. This problem has been occurring for a couple weeks.
Perhaps a server or mirror is stuck 1 week behind?
To the other poster who recreates the problem:
When I said I couldn't recreate it - I meant I can't recreate it just using IE which is what I would prefer to submit a problem report.

THAN K GOD someone else is having this problem. It started for me about a month ago (working flawlessly prior to that). Today I am continually getting quotes from Aug 2nd as well.
What is your workaround? You request the date as welll and wait until all the dates are "today"?
I also retrieve blocks of quotes in the same sheet and refresh accordingly.

I don't know of any work-around, other than getting a pay service. There
isn't another free service that I know of that returns quotes for a
multitude of tickers in a single Internet access.
If you are getting a number of quotes, getting them by individual ticker
will take a long time.

Which of the pay services would provide array entered quote retrievals?
Yes, my work-around is just to always return the date to make sure it's what I expect. I then added a button on my spreadsheet to use Randy's SMFForceRecalculation function to re-get the quotes if they are wrong.
To help identify what's "off", I use Conditional Formatting to highlight quotes when the dates don't match. I don't see all the detailed quotes on some of my summary tabs and this allows me highlight the problems better.
So, it's not a work-around in the sense it avoids the problem. But, a work-around in the sense that it provides an easy and fast way to get the correct results.
Randy, I couldn't find the doc for SMFForceRecalculation, is that still the recommended way to refresh the cache?

I always use smfForceRecalculation to refresh everything -- see the "Links"
area of the group for info on it.
I haven't used a pay quotes service in well over a decade. I don't need that
much data any more.
