Hi,
I just uploaded this add in, and it is uploaded (the version test works) but I get ~ 99.99% errors for every function I try. Even the example templates don't work (the JNJ) for example. I'm trying the RCHGetElement functions from the most recent function file, so the functions aren't obsolete. Do you know any quick fixes? Or I have my spreadsheet all ready to go if it would be possible for someone to just run it and return it to me. I am on a deadline and this tool is so perfect if I can get it working!
Best,
Vanessa

It would help to know which function invocations you're getting errors on.
I suspect you're trying to use RCHGetElementNumber() for things from MSN?
MSN revamped their website late last year, dropping most of the data items
that used to be available, so all of the MSN data elements are obsolete
right now. I just change the templates page a day or so ago to indicate the
MSN templates are obsolete.
I think I've also had to make updates for AdvFN web site changes. So the
"official" release of the add-in may not work with those either. AdvFN has
been fiddling back and forth with changes for the last few years. There
also is a "fix" for IE options that are required for AdvFN because of
changes MicroSoft made -- see the "Tips and FAQs" web page for info on that.
There is an updated version of the add-in on the "Works in Progress" web
page. The ZIP file there is a copy of the add-in as I'm currently using it,
as well as updated element definition files.

Hi,I figured it out - I hadn't uninstalled the old add in version, so it was still pointing to the old one. I do have another question though - does the server kick you out if you make too many requests? I have come to a point where I'm not able to extract information for any more stock tickers or access more data from stock tickers that I have already accessed. (I'm doing some advanced analytics so I'm requesting thousands of stock tickers and 60+ functions). Do you know when it might let me back in? What I have gotten so far is wonderful though - thank you so much, and for the quick response!

The add-in itself will balk at that. It's only designed for ad hoc usage.
After 1000 web page retrievals, all further web page retrieval requests
will return "Error". That's because it saves a copy of the web page before
it extracts data from it, and there are only 1000 slots for storing web
pages. But some sites do limit how many web pages you can access. The
limits they have and the actions they take will vary by web site. I know
IBD has a limit of something like 300 stock checkups within a 24 hour
period. And one person had trouble with Zacks, that may have been a
lock-out.
I really don't want people to "bulk" download data with the add-in, because
it wouldn't be that difficult for the free data sources to change their web
pages to prevent something like the add-in from grabbing data from them.
If you need that much data, you should be using a paid data source.

I currently can't get to any stock pages under Yahoo Finance.
I'm getting redirected to the main Yahoo Finance page.

Ditto. So the problem is with Yahoo and not with something gone haywire on my end.
Thanks, Randy. Hope they get it fixed soon.
