Errors with RchGetYahooQuotes

I am getting a lot of "error" values returned when using RchGetYahooQuotes. This strated probably about a week ago. They seem random - sometimes it returns the right value, sometimes it returns "error". Anyone else having the same problem? Any suggested fixes?
Thanks,

So am I having this problem and it did start last week. I am wondering
if Yahoo has been looking at the time between quote requests from the
same IP. I can go back and double click on the request field in excel
(showing the formula items) and hit return it eventually returns the
correct value, but out of 17 stocks I am requesting I am getting only 8
with the correct value. The stocks that I am requesting for quotes are
ALXN, CSC, CVS, DELL, FDX, GILD, HUM, INTC, NOK, NE, SLB, SWKS, T, TXT,
UAN, V, WDC. The ones that fail are ALXN, CSC, CVS, NOK, T, TXT, UAN,
WDC. But it changes over time and when I do a smfForceRecalculation,
but still have 5-7 which fail and they are not always the some stocks.

I don't think it is an issue of time between requests. If I manually recalculate the same cell (and only that cell) multiple times, it will randomly give me a good value or give me an error – even if I wait seconds between recalculations.

It's Yahoo having problems.
What I would suggest is to use the array-entered version of
RCHGetYahooQuotes(). Then it will be an "All or None" deal and easier to
deal with. And the updates should be a lot faster too.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, my spreadsheet has automated functions to insert new stocks (by adding rows) that would be difficult to deal with in array mode. I've also noted that Yahoo is much slower than it used to be.

You can have the array-entered function input 200 ticker cells, even though
only 50 are populated with ticker symbols. Then, instead of inserting a
row, you just add it to the ticker symbol list...
But it does depend on the process...

Your workbook took a long time to recalculate when I opened it. I'm
thinking the "Error" results are "time outs" when accessing Yahoo --
probably one of their servers has a problem.
Again, I would suggest putting ALL of your quote retrievals in a single
worksheet, as an array-entered formula. Then, at least the "Error" result
is an "All or Nothing" type problem. Which is easy to fix with an
smfForceRecalculation.
For example, your formula:
=IF(RCHGetYahooQuotes(Stock, "a")="N/A" ,RCHGetYahooQuot es(Stock, "l1"),RCHGetYaho oQuotes(Stock, "a"))
...requires TWO internet access to get a single quote. And you do it for
both the bid and the ask.

My first suspicion is that you're having location errors (see entry in
"Links" area of the group).
Have you checked your Internet Options (also see "Links" area of the group)?
Reinstall shouldn't make a difference.

Hi Randy
I'm afraid that I'm still struggling.
=smfGetAdvFNElement("LSE:PDL" ,"A",1,"> Year End Date<") for example returns an error but I can get to the Financials webpage for LSE:PDL.
Am I missing something obvious?
Thanks

Macro help
Posted by: "d.sweitzer22" d.sweitzer22@yahoo.com d.sweitzer22
Tue Apr 10, 2012 1:56 pm (PDT)
Hey, I am new to VBA and I am trying to write a macro using your getyahoohistory function. What I have now is a column starting in A7 with ticker symbols and then the date I want in an array with the year(in N14), month(in O14), and day(in P14). What I am trying to do is have the have the column starting at C7 display the closing price for each ticker at the set date, without it putting the function itself in the cell. Right now I can get the number but it changes that cell into the function instead of just displaying the number.
The parameters of the function im using are:
=RCHGetYahooHistory(A7,N14,O14, P14,N14,O14, P14,"d"," C",0,0,0)
for the first ticker.
If anyone has any spare time I would greatly appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance.

Please tell me you're not retrieving historical data one day at a time?
You should post your macro code so people have some idea of what you have
already.

Australian data not updated in MSN Money

Hello Randy:
Since 3/29/2012 Australian data has not been updated on MSN Money.
For example, see the 10-day price chart for AU:MIN --
http://investing.money.msn. com/investments/ charts?symbol= au:min#all= on&period= 10d&interactive= on&symbol= au:min
It shows $12.03 on March 29 and nothing since.
Any thoughts?
