The smf-element-*.txt files belong in the same folder as your XLA file. The
add-in loads them when the first RCHGetElementNumber() function is used. So
best practice is to update them with EXCEL closed (although the
smfForceRecalculation macro will force them to be reloaded if you update
them with EXCEL open).
The 2017.09.17 ZIP file contains all of the latest element file changes.

I set and unset the add-on under Options, saving the spreadsheet in between settings. It now seems to be working fine. I had also flushed the caches -- that is more likely to have been the cause.
