However, after data has been retrieved on the first hundred or so, I get an error message telling me I have pretty much reached the maximum allowable download for the session and I am subsequently prevented from downloading further data until I do a full system restart and begin anew.

Randy,
I just started going thru files section and installed smf add-in. Although I have been using msn money central web query for quite some time with my limited VBA codes, it's amazing to see the assistance you have been providing. It's great!
As this group has been here for quite some, is it a good start with "files section" to see what's going to be useful for you and to get used to add-ins instead of going thru messages? In other words, what's your advice for a newcomer?
Do you have addins for Morningstar (for finding out a stock's sector, industry, stock style, stock type) which I use for portfolio analysis?
many thanks,
Shankar V

The add-in can be used with a variety of data providers. It's primarily
just a collection of user-defined functions that extract data from the
source code of web page. Some MorningStar pages are dynamically generated,
so the data isn't within the source code of the web page, so the add-in has
difficulty there. Some web pages aren't bookmarkable (i.e use a URL to get
directly to the necessary date), so the add-in can't help there.
For learning, I'd suggest a visit to the "Documentation" folder of the
"Files" area and a browse through the "Links" area of the group for tips
and FAQ. Be sure to try out some of the examples in the documentation of
the functions so you can get some idea of what the function might be doing.
