Mike - thanks for that response...it does make sense to me. And as long as the Yahoo Terms of Service applies specifically to their software modules and the posting of their data on another entities website, I think this puts the matter to rest.
Finally, If the data was proprietary, they would have password protected it and sold it on a subscription basis. Instead, they've given it away in return for marketing and promotional reasons....which is consistent with many web business models.

Softball of a question

Randy, Back to tinkering with an old file of mine as I look to balance of gains and losses for the year. My google values have stopped working. Saw several threads and it looks like Google is a bit of a pain.
Is there a downloadable fix for google to correct URL's and such? OR am I better off to remap values I was plucking to AdvFN-Q and AdvFN-Y values?
Looks like most everything is here.
If I do use the AdvFN-Q, are the twenty quarters sequenced by the last trailing twenty quarters or aligned by last five fiscal years? I guess I can always test. Thanks again for all you work on this . You have become an institution.

There is an update for Google element definitions in the "Works in
Progress" folder.
As far as I know, *ALL* sources have quarterly data for the trailing
quarter, not aligned on the fiscal years.

Short interest

Can someone tell me the element number for short interest? I've looked through the element definition list until my eyes are starting to go around in circles. I'm sure there's one there; just can't find it.
Many thanks.

From the Yahoo Key Statistics page:
*#* *Source* *Element* 985 YahooKS Shares Short -- Current 986 YahooKS Short
Ratio 987 YahooKS Short % of Float 988 YahooKS Shares Short -- Prior
You can get the history of the short interest from the NASDAQ web site:
=RCHGetHTMLTable("http://www.nasdaq. com/symbol/ mmm/short- interest
",">Settlement",-1,"",1)
