I have been able to make a table with the Div information from MMM
thanks to the formula:

=RCHGetHTMLTable("http://www.nasdaq.com/symbol/mmm/dividend-history
","Ex/Ef",-1,"",1)

Now I would like to automatically change the ticker symbol to permit me
to get the Div history of other stocks.

Could you be so kind in helping me?

These add –in formulas are really a time saving feature once you get
them set up properly.

Thank you

Therein lies my problem. I am not sure how to do an array.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to enter this as an array formula.

Randy, can you expand on this a little more. All I get when I put this in a
cell is Ex/ <http://www.nasdaq.com/symbol/mmm/dividend-history> Eff Date
Clicking on it takes me to the webpage. However, I would like to load it
into the excel spreadsheet.
Thanks,

Payment date is irrelevant in terms of when to adjust the historical stock
price. But it is important when constructing a cash flow scenario.

In any case, how about from the NASDAQ web site:

=RCHGetHTMLTable("http://www.nasdaq.com/symbol/mmm/dividend-history","Ex/Ef"
,-1,"",1)

dividend, but then I'd have to assume payment on the same day, or use some
algorythm to approximate the actual payment date. Assuming, of course, that
there is no easy way to bet both Ex-Div AND scheduled payment date.

Check the function documentation. There's an explanation of the process
there.

move to/save in a memory stick

I have created a bunch of spreadsheets full of the RCH and smf formulas - cell and array entered. When I save or move them to another computer or, lately, a memory stick and after opening them and going to "Edit Links/Change Source" to change RCH_Stock_Market_Functions.xla to a new location on the stick I am getting #NAME?,... all over the places.

How can I move to/save in a memory stick for example to be able to use my spreadsheets wherever I want? Saving RCH_Stock_Market_Functions.xla and smf-elements files on the stick and updating their locations in spreadsheets involved does not do the trick. How can it be done painlessly?

I always recommend that you COPY/PASTE to any removable data such as a memory stick. Then copy/paste to the other computer.

The add-in can be located almost anywhere. However, if the add-in is in a
different location between the time a workbook is saved and the time it is
opened, you'll need to manually edit all of the links. That's the way EXCEL
handles it. I usually just do a "Find and Replace All" and fix them all at
one time -- see the item on location errors in the "Links" area of the
group for more information.

Note that you don't want to UPDATE the location in the formula. You want to
REMOVE it.

Thank you, Don!

But ... that's not the problem. I've done them both...
Good news I found what the problem was, I think!

I had copied Randy's RCH_Stock_Market_Functions.xla and smf-elements to a new location on the stick. Then I found out that I had to:
1. remove the original (C drive location) of these files (Excel Options/Add-ins/Manage/Go (and Save/OK),
2. return once again and locate a new address on the stick (and Save/OK)
All my formulas work flawlessly now!. As soon as I finish this message I will go to my laptop to check if everything is ok, but I think it should be!

Yes, it is!

Thank you Randy!

I did not know this possibility exists (Find and Replace), can you do it for array entered formulas as well? As my new and mobile files work now (see my previous message) I'm scared to touch them :), but I will test it later.

(I hope this problem described and solved will provide some guidelines for other group members.)

It depends on how you use the memory stick. I have a whole host of programs/queries that I wrote in excel and access that are all mapped to run around inside the V drive memory stick. These use the V drive because I wanted the software to run on any computer without leaving any personal information behind. One would only run into a problem if the computer he was using had an application required to be used on the V drive.

I also store on the memory stick a copy of an excel file that has all the SMF queries in it. I simply drag a copy of that one excel file to the desktop, update it normally and edit-copy/paste values into the workbook on the V drive that I want to update. I can then delete the SMF query file workbook from the desktop and there will be no residual data left on the computer except for the add-in in the Program Files folder. I suppose one could delete that too, but it wouldn't be necessary.

I only use one workbook for all SMF equations, so that makes it easy to move about. It also makes it totally portable to any other computer that will take a memory stick.

I used to just Export to Excel (right click on the mouse) from the yahoo web site, but they disabled that ability a whiles back so we had to develop (using SMF) an alternate solution

The "Find and Replace All" method works for array-entered formulas as well.

I actually have a macro in the add-in that I use -- smfFixLinks. The old
version is very specific, but I updated the copy in the beta version of the
add-in (in the "Works in Progress" folder) to be as generic as possible. It
changes:

"'*\RCH_Stock_Market_Functions.xla'!"

...to nothing. I think that should handle all situations. In any case, I
have the macro saved to a button on my toolbar, so any time I open up a
workbook with link issues, I just run the macro. But it only works on the
active worksheet.

Simon,

V (or X, Y, Z for the matter) as a drive letter is a very good idea. I have already bumped into D:/E: drive letters confusion playing with my sticks!

Thank you
