RCHGetElementNumber gives wrong value

I'm using RCHGetElementNumber() #9 for % Mutual Fund Ownership, it gives a value different from MSN (the difference is 0.05 or 0.06%).

Do you have any idea how it comes, is it by you aswel? (its not a big issue but i just noticed it).

=RCHGetTableCell("http://uk.advfn.com/p.php?pid=financials&symbol=ko",1,"Latest
Shares Outstanding")

Hi
Can you post this template here ( SMF) ?
Thanks

If you are interested, I created a simple workbook in google docs that compares price target data with the underlying prices for a given stock. It also provides an annotated chart (from Google finance) that highlights the firm, the action, and the price target for that firm. Again, a simple but interesting tool (to me anyways).

The spreadsheet is available as a template here:

https://docs.google.com/templates?q=toteboard.net&sort=hottest&view=public

Then look for the Price Target template.

A blog detailing how it was created is provided here:

http://justspreadsheets.blogspot.com/2012/03/price-targets-which-comes-first-target.html

Not sure I ever answered the initial question from my blog which drove me to create it in the first place, so interested to know from the crew here:

Which comes first, the target or the price?

It's not an SMF template. It's a template for Google spreadsheets. You need
to load it from the Google platform, so there would be nothing available to
post to this group.

RCHGetYahooQuotes() function not updating

Randy,
I got your latest version working Thursday [after a struggle with ctrl-shift-enter]. I had been using your prior version which automatically updated each time the spreadsheet was reopened. The new version does not update [ie, wont give Friday's data; only shows thursday's] If I try ctrl-shift-enter, all the data cells fill with #name?.

It could be that your Internet Options are set to cache web pages. See item
9.4.2 in the "Links" area of the Yahoo group.

The most likely reason for the #NAME? error if you are entering the formula
is that you've spelled something incorrectly.

You would need to use the RCHGetYahooHistory() function.

RCHGetHTMLTable

Sun Mar 4, 2012 12:32 pm (PST)

Hi Randy,
I have been using the following function to pull a table from a site:

=RCHGetHTMLTable("http://www.secform4.com/2003-08-13/selling.htm","Transaction",-1,"Transaction",1)

However, for certain dates it doesn't seem to work, even though the source code appears to be the same (i.e. same number of Table tags, same table structure, same number of occurrences of the word "Transaction" etc.)

For instance, the following returns a blank cell for me: =RCHGetHTMLTable("http://www.secform4.com/2003-08-14/selling.htm","Transaction",-1,"Transaction",1)

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

I'm not sure what to tell you -- both formulas worked fine for me. However,
"Transaction" is a fairly week search term that could show up on the web
page for some reason, earlier than the table itself. For example, one of
the HTML class tags has "transaction" in it.

I would actually use:

=RCHGetHTMLTable("http://www.secform4.com/2003-08-13/selling.htm
",">Transaction",-1,"",1)

Thanks for taking a look Randy. Not sure why it doesn't work on my end. Your function also works for 8/13 but not for 8/14. I'm guessing it shouldn't have anything to do with my Excel version (2007). Not quite sure what else it could be. All dates from 8/13 through 9/02 in 2003, for instance, return a blank.

You could try something like:

=smfGetTagContent("http://www.secform4.com/2003-08-13/selling.htm
","table",C2)

...where C2 is a number telling it which table to return. For example, I
find 4 tables on the page, looking something like:

<tbody align="center"><tr> <td rowspan="2" width="20%"> <a href="/…
<tdead class="transactionHead"> <tr> <td>Transaction<br>& Date…
<tdead class="transactionHead"> <tr> <td>Transaction<br>& Date…
<tbody> <tr> <td valign="middle"> &copy; 2005-2012 <a href="/">Se…

It may give you some idea of what you're looking at.

Hmmmm. 2003? Are you perhaps exceeding the 1000 web page storage limit? How
many web pages were you retrieving?

Thanks for the suggestion, but the smfGetTagContent function returns 'Error' for 8/14 (and the other dates that I mentioned), no matter what number I use for C2 and no matter what tag I use. I don't believe I've reached the webpage storage limit as many dates after 9/2 work. There just seems to be a problem retrieving the page content for some reason. However, it is somewhat peculiar that it works on your machine and not on mine (I'm using the latest version of the add-in, so that shouldn't be the problem).

It could be the website had problems temporarily. Have you tried using the
smfForceRecalculation macro to get a fresh copy of the web page? You could
just have a bunch of bad web page retrievals, for whatever reason.

Trend Values for http://www.masterdata.com/

Posted by: "smithjhhic" smithjhhic@yahoo.com   smithjhhic

Sun Mar 4, 2012 1:40 pm (PST)

Hello,
I would like to utilize the "Current Trend", "Trend Life (Periods)" and "Trend Begin Date" from:

http://www.masterdata.com/ComponentFrames/E/EWZ.htm
http://www.masterdata.com/ComponentFrames/B/BND.htm

My difficulties are:
- The url seems to change based on the symbol. For example, the "/E/" with EWZ and the "/B/" with BND. Is there a way to code to take this into account?

- Uncertain how to construct the formulas to show the fields listed above (ie. "Current Trend") for the four values "Daily", "Weekly", "Monthly" and "Quarterly".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
v/r,
Jeff

Looks straight-forward to me -- just a slight complication in creating the
URL. For example, to get the first current trend value if the ticker symbol
is in cell C4:

=RCHGetTableCell("http://www.masterdata.com/ComponentFrames/"&LEFT(C4,1)&"/"&C4&".htm",1,">Current
Trend")

...should get the Daily value. Just change the "1" parameter to 2 thru 4 to
get the other time periods.

Using 5 Tildas in a RCHGetElementNumber

Posted by: "mytakeismine" mytakeismine@yahoo.com   mytakeismine

Sun Mar 4, 2012 3:42 pm (PST)

Hi all, I have workbook and am unable to use the 5 Tilda's in a RCHGetElementNumber. This is a new computer and I am using Excel from Office 10. The addin appears registered as I can see it and when RCHGetElementNumber("Version") it results in Version 2.1.2012.2.2
I am using Win 7 and all files are located in C:\Program files\SMF Addin folder.

My workbook is setup with "Ticker" in the 2:B cell and included in the "Name Box", my short list of stocks directly underneath it. Directly right of "Ticker" (B2) I have my RCHGetElementNumber("~~~~~", 981) Below that and right of my list of stocks I am getting "Error". Now If I replace the 5 Tildas with the name of the stock I get the correct output.

Question is, am I using the 5 Tildas or alias incorrectly? And can someone either point me in the right direction, an explaination as how to fix or an example?
Lastly to Randy H, Thanks for a wonderful program and forum!

If you have the ticker symbol in cell B2, then you would do:

=RCHGetElementNumber(B2, 981)

Or are you talking about using the smfUpdateDownloadTable macro? If so, the
column definition would be in cell B1, not B2. B2 is left alone, allowing
you to create a column header.

The A2 cell would need to be named "Ticker" (not just have that content in
the cell). A3 would need a ticker symbol. B1 would contain your column
formula, with the tildas in it.

Hi Randy Thanks for your help. Wow I was way off, I thought I read about using 5 tilde's in parentheses as some type of alias? How nice to just declare the cell, how simple and elegant.... nice work and thanks ever so much. I hope when I and others say thanks, that you somehow feel our gratitude and when we all get to Heaven.... lets have a Randy H day! Cheers!
