Hi Randy

This RCH formulae works on one machine running Excel 2010 but on another running Excel 2007 it does not work and shows "Error". Is it a requirement to use Excel 2010 or are there some updates I need?

thanks

LL

That formula works for me in Excel 2003 - highly unlikely to have only 2007 be an inherent problem. Do any formulas work for you in your Excel 2007?

What about this one:
=RCHGetElementNumber("version")

If none work for 2007, see Links section for some tips:

Yes, those that have a number attached to them works. The one that does not work are the ones that refer to a web page address directly in the formulae.

Do all of them with a webpage address directly in the formula fail? Or just
that one. What about this one:

=smfGetTagContent("http://quotes.wsj.com/VFC/company-people","p",1,"cr_compa
ny_desc <http://quotes.wsj.com/VFC/company-people> ")

This one works.

Does it have anything to do with formulaes that start with RCHGetTableCell not working because I am missing something?

Very unlikely. Randy uses Excel 2007 - for what that's worth. So, his
machine is OK, yours with 2010 is OK and mine with 2003 is OK.

What is your exact formula that isn't working as it is on your 2007 machine
- are you sure you entered it exactly right?

This is the exact formula:

Sorry, I'm out of ideas. If you can access this page successfully using
Internet Explorer but SMF doesn't work then I don't know. SMF, through
Excel, uses the same internet access as IE.

http://markets.ft.com/Research/Markets/Tearsheets/Summary?s=PTBA:JKT

I know Randy has sometimes has people try using Excel's Import External Data
/ New Web Query for the url in question to make sure it is retrievable. SMF
essentially relies on Excel's ability to retrieve it - then SMF parses it.
Excel itself relies essentially on IE so that's why you should see if IE can
lookup the page OK. I have no idea why it wouldn't - but sometimes funny
things arise when you try that.

Oh, have you set your IE cache option properly? If you got a bad page one
time but your cache setting is wrong it could just be using that same bad
page.
This links item describes how to set it right:
http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/smf_addin/message/13523

If none of this helps you'll have to wait for the master in the morning.

Thanks. I realized that when I keyed in http://markets.ft.com/tearsheets/performance.asp?s=PTBA.JK into IE, it changes to http://markets.ft.com/Research/Markets/Tearsheets/Summary?s=PTBA:JKT
automatically.
When I keyed in this new url into the formula, it works.
