Hello Randy and Forum Members,
I am trying to use the smf-addin, which I like a lot.
I am running in the following problem. I would like to pull the ex-dividend date from Yahoo to an excel spreadsheet. If I understand correctly, I need to type in the following command in, say cell B1: =RCHGetElementNumber(A1,992), where in cell A1 I write the ticker, like aapl. When I follow this procedure, I get error written in cell B1 (where I write the command)
My second question is about IBD. I have IBD subscription, and I would like to pull the Smartselect ratings for a bunch of companies. Their address for apple (for example) is http://research.investors.com/quotes/nasdaq-apple-inc-aapl.htm?fromsearch=1 http://research.investors.com/quotes/nasdaq-apple-inc-aapl.htm?fromsearch=1
I would be very grateful if you can explain in detail how to pull this rating data (6 indicators) from the IBD website. And also, what am I doing wrong with the ex-dividend date data from Yahoo?
Thank you very much

I'm not sure what to tell you. It's working fine here. You don't have any
kind of firewall that would prevent EXCEL and the add-in from accessing the
Internet, do you? Are any other functions working?
Could there be something wrong with the ticker symbol in cell A1? What do
you get if you hard-code it all:
=RCHGetElementNumber("MMM",992)
What do you get with:
=RCHGetElementNumber("Version")

There is a template for the IBD items on the website:
http://ogres-crypt.com/SMF/Templates/#IBD
A little bit of a pain, since the URL requires the exchange and company
name in addition to the ticker symbol. So you do need to go through the
additional step of creating the URL.
However, before opening it and using the add-in formulas, you will need to
create an IE security cookie. That means logging in to the IBD web site
using either the EXCEL Web Query dialog (keyboard shortcut alt+d+d+w) or
with Internet Explorer. The Web Query process is preferred because there
sometimes is a disconnect between the browser and the IE object that EXCEL
uses. Once you log in with the Web Query process, just cancel out of it.
The cookie will have been created.
I don't know what you mean by "a bunch of comparnies", but note that the
IBD terms of service limits you to 300 companies per day.
