Im sorry, but updating the elements-1.txt file is not working for me. As I posted in a previous message, mine is already updated and it still shows the error on the elements were MSN is the source. And acording to what Im reading, I think I´m not the only one. I exited Excel, and even restarted the computer... the problem persist.

Have you tried going to money.msn.com using Internet Explorer before
starting Excel?

I need to access their website once at the start of the day using IE (not
FF, Safari, or any other) and then my MSN retrievals in SMF work fine. I
have to repeat this each day. There must be some sort of logon cookie. I
can see some sort of webpage transition for live.com (the logon) when I
acces it using IE. Not everyone seems to need to do that but it's been very
consistent for me since this recent problem started.

For example, element 13862 did not work for me earlier today but once I
accessed money.msn.com with IE it works fine.

Ok, finally some progress. I work through two computers, one at the office (Windows 7 Professional & Excel 2007) where Im still having the problem, and one at home (Windows 7 Home Premium & Excel 2010) where I just updated the smf-elements-1 file and it corrected most of the errors (Im still getting error in element 13862) So it seems the problem has something to do with Excel 2007 or with the "Professional" Windows.

Answering your question Randy.... At home, were most works except element 13862, the formula smfGetAParms(13862) gets me:

MSN;Company Name;=TRIM(smfStrExtr("|"&smfGetTagContent("http://investing.money.msn.com/investments/stock-report?CR=1&AF=1&IH=1&AIE=1&AIR=1&FRH=1&FRK=1&ISA=1&ISQ=1&BSA=1&BSQ=1&CFA=1&CFQ=1&TYS=1&ITT=1&ITP=1&Type=Equity&Symbol=~~~~~","div",-1,"class=""cn"">"),"|","<"))

I'll write tomorrow from the office to let you know what i get in that laptop, were I'm also having problems with the links of my spreadsheets (I'll comment about that in another post, sorry about that)

Steve, I'm sure Randy would find it helpful if you cut the exact url from
the getAparms string below and pasted it into IE to see what happens. You
should see a screen full of data in report form. It is this data that SMF
will parse. It must be IE, not some other browser.

So, use "copy" for the characters starting with http:// through the final
~~~~~ and replace the 5 ~~~~~ with some known good ticker symbol removing
unneeded ~ characters. Paste that info IE and hit enter and note what is
returned.
Note you can also copy the string from element 13862 in the elements-1.txt
file if that's easier (that's the source for the GetAparms function).
If IE returns the data correctly the info for element 13862 happens to be
near the top of the page.
It's a rare problem indeed where IE shows the correct data but Randy's SMF
does not. This is why this info would be helpful. Technically it would be
better to go into Excel Web Query to do that but doing it in IE is easier
and often makes the problem apparent.
You have the correct definition of element 13862.
EXCEL 2007 shouldn't be the problem -- that's what I use.
Basically, this is what the element definition is doing:
=smfEval("TRIM(smfStrExtr(""|""&smfGetTagContent(""
http://investing.money.msn.com/investments/stock-report?CR=1&AF=1&IH=1&AIE=1&AIR=1&FRH=1&FRK=1&ISA=1&ISQ=1&BSA=1&BSQ=1&CFA=1&CFQ=1&TYS=1&ITT=1&ITP=1&Type=Equity&Symbol=MMM
"",""div"",-1,""class=""""cn"""">""),""|"",""<""))")
...or the direct version:
=TRIM(smfStrExtr("|"&smfGetTagContent("
http://investing.money.msn.com/investments/stock-report?CR=1&AF=1&IH=1&AIE=1&AIR=1&FRH=1&FRK=1&ISA=1&ISQ=1&BSA=1&BSQ=1&CFA=1&CFQ=1&TYS=1&ITT=1&ITP=1&Type=Equity&Symbol=MMM
","div",-1,"class=""cn"">"),"|","<"))
Do those work on your computer? Both of them give me the same result as:
=RCHGetElementNumber("MMM",13862)
Try the smfFixLinks macro when you have a workbook with unresolved links.
I think I found the problem. My windows is in spanish, so the SMF Add-In folder is in C:\Archivos de Programa instead of Program Files, but for some reason the laptop at the office (that is in spanish) changes the path of the links of my worksheet to english C:\Program Files...
Anyway, I was reading some old post and I read that you can save the SMF Addin in any part of the computer, so I was thinking of saving it at a new folder C:\SMF to avoid this problem with languages. Can it be done?. Could there be a problem if I do that?
The add-in can be located almost anywhere. The only issue is opening
workbooks that were saved with the add-in in a different location. Then you
have to manually resolve the links.
But if you are constantly moving things between two computers, I would make
sure they use a consistent location.
My own location is:
C:\SMF Add-in
...which is the location all new templates will use.
When I open up a workbook that needs links resolved, I just press a button
on my toolbar that runs the smfFixLinks macro that is part of the add-in.
