Randy, thanks for the template.
smfGetTagContent/smfGetTagContent-Quick-Webpage-Examination.xls
I have been using it and find it very useful. However, there is always an
exception.
This URL http://www.dividendchannel.com/history/?symbol=cmo Returns "error"
in cells C21 thru C34
I may not an HTML guru but it looks to me like this page is most generated
and not in the source.
But I don't understand the "ERROR" on the table part?
Thanks,
Kermit

The "Error" returned just means it can't find any more tables. However, on
my (current) copy of the workbook, I only have "Error" in C32 thru C34. But
the number of tables on a page can vary depending on what types of ads they
display. So, if you copy the cells down far enough, you would eventually
start getting an "Error" returned for any web page, as soon as no more
tables could be found. Some of the dynamically generated web pages from
MorningStar have NO tables at all in the original source code.
Is the "Error" the only exception you're referring to?

Thanks,
I was pretty sure I had the latest copy but I just downloaded it again.
This time I got the same results as you error in C32 thru C34
That was my only problem as far as I tested.
Sorry, next time I'll download a fresh copy before I post.

Everything was shifted down because I added the text box at the top of the
window. Not full out instructions you (?) requested, but at least an
overview of some type...

Hmmm. The problem you have with 989, 990, 4926 and 4927 used to exist, before I revised the element definitions, back in late 2010. If you look on the Key Statistic page:
http://finance.
...you'll note that "Trailing Annual Dividend Yield" is the label on BOTH the trailing rate AND the trailing dividend. Yahoo changed the dividend data items they displayed on that page back in late 2010, which is why I had to change the element definitions.
And, then, I had to adjust the element definitions again for that label error on Yahoo's part.
What do you get with:
=RCHGetElementNumbe
=smfGetAParms(
=smfGetAParms(
=smfGetAParms(
=smfGetAParms(
On Sat, Feb 23, 2013 at 11:44 AM, John Prather mustardjohn1@
Here is my output for various codes. The 4924 is the one I needed. I can just get price and do current yield. Not sure why I am getting errors. I used the same excel cell to do the comparison below. Just typed in element number each time. Not sure why 989,990 and 4926, 4927 give strange results. Tried MMM since maybe ANH was small Co and giving odd numbers.
OK!!! 4925 was a formatting error on my part. When I format for % one decimal I get the 9.6% yield I was looking for so 4924 and 4925 work great!!!

Some of the subscriber SEC data sources have an EXCEL export feature...
Otherwise, extracting it from the statements themselves can be tedious, as
they can have different formats. CBRL is supposed to fix a lot of that, but
it won't be retroactively applied to historical statements.
In the end, extraction would depend on the format of the data that is
desired.

I haven't looked at them for well over a year...
Yahoo and MSN and MorningStar all have lists of SEC filings, but
MorningStar seems to have the best navigation and display options
(including CBRL). Yahoo has EXCEL downloads, but you need to register first
-- I haven't done that, so I don't even know if it's free or not.
Otherwise, go directly to the source:

I copied and pasted the inputs you suggest and got the output below if I did it right. I download the files from the file section for this group and made sure I reinstalled the plug in. I put all the files in a folder in Program Files on c drive called SMF Add-Ins and directed excel to look for the add-in there. Not 100% sure I got the latest files but thought I did.

Wow, do you have an old copy of the add-in, and old copies of the elements
definitions -- from almost 3 years ago. The outdated element definitions
are the primary reason you're having issues. None of your MSN elements
would work, since MSN has restructured their website almost annually, each
of which required redefinitions of all of their elements.
I would suspect you have multiple folders with the add-in on your computer
and the add-in manager is pointing to the 3-years-old folder.

The last official release is RCH_Stock_Market_Functions-2.1.2012.12.29.zip,
found in the "Add-in Files" folder of the FILES area of the group.
The last beta release is RCH_Stock_Market_Functions-2.1.2013.02.12.zip,
found in the "Works in Progress" folder of the FILES area of the group.
There's also a change log in that folder that shows the changes made since
the last official release.

I checked and I only see one folder. The add-in file is dated 12/29/12 3:53pm 462kb. However, SMF 7 and 8 are dated 2009 all the others are dated 2011 or 2012.

I did load what was probably an old set of files but I deleted them all and put the new set in the folder. I went to excel add-in and selected the Stock Markets Function add in and brosed to the folder and selected the new one said ok and gave message do I want to replace the existing file I said yes and thought that cleared the old version but apparently not. I think I will delete the whole folder and start over.
