I'm new to working with the smf Excel add-in.
I'm trying to gather a list of option prices, bid and ask, on about 50 - 100 different options with different expiration months (from April to next February). The sample files I see seem to show only getting prices from the same month.
Is there a way to get prices for differing option expiration months ??
Is there a basic "User Manual," or "Tutorial" for downloading ??
What actually causes the functions to go out and get the data requested?? I don't see any "Update prices" or similar type activating button on the sample spreadsheets. As the prices change throughout the day, there must be some way of requesting the latest data, no ??
Thanks

Check the documentation folder in the files section
Randy's doc isn't the greatest but his add-in is the best.

Check out the smfGetOptionQuotes() function.
Also check out the options entry in the LINKS area of the group. It walks
through some of the various option functions.
Also in the LINKS area of the group, take a look at the
smfForceRecalculation item. It's what you'll need to update web pages the
data is extracted from.

I'm pretty sure they are aware that it has not been done. Its correct now.
The last thing they need is a million people sending them a notice.
It's a free service have a little patience or use a FEE service then you can
complain.

Anyone have a Yahoo help contact email address? Their historical data has
not updated tonight (it's normally 90-100% done by this time, but appears as
if nothing has been updated at all).
E.g.,
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/hp?s=GLD+Historical+Prices shows only through
close of Apr 16.
I can't seem to find a way to alert to them.

I don't know what you're talking about, but it's definitely NOT fixed as of right now. Pretty significant issue when your historical data is 18 hours of date. As someone who used to work in the data dept. at ESPN, I can say that being alerted to real problems by users was never a bad thing. The earlier the better. What was counterproductive was people using the same channels to bitch about personal computer issues or aesthetics.
Hence, the reason I had asked if anyone here had a real contact at Yahoo.

It's a known problem. People using other programs (not Randy's stuff)
to access Yahoo Finance data are also reporting problems. I'm told (by
no one I trust) that Yahoo knows about it. It will get fixed when it
gets fixed.
If you have time-sensitive data needs and require better reliability
then look to purchase your data. My experience with Yahoo is that this
happens 3-4 times a year over the last 5-10 years. Sometimes it's only
hours late in the evening, sometimes 1-2 days. It happens.
Good luck,
Mark

Depending on what you use them for, they might be a possible source. But
you'd need to use one of the other add-in functions and do it on your own.

Hi Randy
First of all, thanks very much for your help so far; when I first
thought about tracking realtime stock data via Excel, even though I have
11 years experience of working with Excel, I didn't think it was going
to be easy... then I stumbled across your Yahoo group - woohoo !
If I might presume on your patience and kindness a bit more, I am trying
to load in the data from a Yahoo portfolio I have created with US
stocks; so I took the examples you gave me and tried to amend to the new
source to get as a start the current price for Google
ie replacing
=smfGetTagContent("http://www.nasdaq.com/symbol/amzn/real-time ","div",-1,"id=""qwidget_lastsale""")
with
=smfGetTagContent("http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/portfolio/pf_2/view/v1 ","div",-1,"id=""yfs_l84_goog""")
but this gives "error"
Of course you won't be able to access my portfolio to see what's going
wrong, so I have included below the page source - if you have a few
minutes spare, would you be able to take a look to see what the prob
might be ?
Many thanks in advance
Dave

First of all, thanks very much for your help so far; when I first
thought about tracking realtime stock data via Excel, even though I have
11 years experience of working with Excel, I didn't think it was going
to be easy... then I stumbled across your Yahoo group - woohoo !
If I might presume on your patience and kindness a bit more, I am trying
to load in the data from a Yahoo portfolio I have created with US
stocks; so I took the examples you gave me and tried to amend to the new
source to get as a start the current price for Google
ie replacing
=smfGetTagContent(
with
=smfGetTagContent(
but this gives "error"
Of course you won't be able to access my portfolio to see what's going
wrong, so I have included below the page source - if you have a few
minutes spare, would you be able to take a look to see what the prob
might be ?
Many thanks in advance
Dave
