While I agree with your intent, I think it can be done without the foul language. "Complete Idiot" would have gotten the message across.

While their point was valid the delivery was uncalled for. But why should it be up to Randy to do everything?

Anyone of us could help by pointing folks to the information.

It can be a little overwhelming for inexperienced Yahoo group members. Especially with the new group format.

The last thing anyone should do is give Randy any grief. He is fantastic. I could never put up with the crap thrown at him.

I'm guilty of taking advantage of him rather than look it up myself.

Let's all try to be respectful of everyone on this group. After all, our goals are all the same. To be better traders/Investors.

Thanks, Randy

Kermit

Are you a COMPLETE fucking idiot?
Randy develops the add-in, makes it freely available and offers constant support. Never asks for a thing from anyone and you just show up with an attitude.

Why don't you piss off and never have anything to do with this group or Randy's add-in? That'll teach him.

asshole

Randy,
Logging in through a web query definitely works- but a couple of questions:

Once I create the new query table and log in, I have to refresh each table manually to display the 10 periods instead of the 5 periods. Is there are way to do this automatically? I tried the F9, but that does not work and I suppose that running a vba procedure to input the array formulas is an option. Also, the tables will not refresh to the 10 periods unless I create this web query- even if I have logged onto Morningstar separately.

Ultimately I would like to see the full 10 period on the start-up of the workbook. I have tried a vba procedure to log on and then create a web query to download data, but it does not work. I don't think that you can log on via VBA using a new web connection and querytable?? Is there any other option?

Thanks

Ken

10 periods are only available if you're a member and have created the necessary IE security cookie, by logging in with either the EXCEL Web Query dialog (preferred) or with IE.

Otherwise, the non-member default is 5 periods.

I am trying to get 10 quarters of financials from Morningstar using your smfGetCSVFIle function. When I set the period to 3 for quarterly, I can only get the latest 5 quarters even though I have set the "columns" to 10. Changing this column number seems to have no effect on the output.

The smfForceRecalculation macro should refresh all SMF formulas in all open
workbooks. See the LINKS area of the group for more information on it.

I just use the keyboard shortcut alt+d+d+w to visit the MorningStar website
if I need to refresh the cookie. Then run the smfForceRecalculation macro
to get fresh copies of the web pages after that has been done.

I find I only rarely need to log in to the MorningStar website. However,
they do have a redirection process in place on your first visit to their
website in a day. That redirection can only be cleared by visiting the
website (so it can update the cookie that triggers the redirection).

You should be able to create an automated VBA routine to log in to the web
site. However, the exact process varies depending on which version of EXCEL
and which version of IE you have. It's why I don't use the HTML object when
extracting data. Trying to write the code for every variation of those
versions would be impossible since I only have one variation of them myself.

I'm not sure this is any easier but you can also get Yahoo split history with this:

=smfGetTagContent("http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=IBM","nobr",1),"Splits:")

(change the "1" to "2" for the second split and so on)

To extract the split ratio from that text string, you can do something like this:

=smfstrExtr("|"&Q23,"[",":")/smfstrExtr("|"&Q23,":","]")

Change Q23 to the cell containing the smfGetTagContent results

I got this info from a post Randy made some time ago.
