Just fyi I just reported a problem to GuruFocus for IBM related to CapEx. Hard to know how many other companies are affected.
IBM's own financials have a line item of "Investment in software" which AdvFN adds into PP&E (see page 58).
http://www.ibm.com/annualreport/2012/bin/assets/2012_ibm_financials.pdf
However, Guru doesn't add it in there nor does it list it separately so the amount is lost.
Guru also doesn't show IBM's value for "Non-operating finance receivables - net" but I don't use that value.
PS: Google includes the "Investment in software" in the CapEx number it shows while Yahoo does not - fun and joy.

It has been my experience that learning something new often presents a challenge in where to start. I want to do something very simple like load a last price quote into an Excel spreadsheet. Looked at your documentation - copied formulas exactly into Excel 2010 but nothing returns except the ticker.
Using Windows 8.1 could that be a problem?
I have a Yahoo account and seem to recall configuring it for real time once but it's fuzzy. Do I need to sign into Yahoo to get quotes? Is there another service I should use alternatively? Elite customer with Etrade - do they have an accessible server?
All I want is last price and the ability to periodically recompute. Feeling dumb here...

To get back a price quote, you'd do something like:
=RCHGetYahooQuotes("MMM","l1")
Did you enter the function without the second parameter? If you just
entered:
=RCHGetYahooQuotes("MMM")
...you'll get just the ticker returned, because the default second
parameter is "sl1d1t1c1ohgv". That is a list of 9 items, where the first
item is the ticker symbol. To get all 9 items, you'd need to array-enter
the formula over a 1-row by 9-column range.
To update, you should use the smfForceRecalculation macro that is part of
the add-in. For more info on it, see the LINKS area of the group.

Standalone workbook examples are in the SMFLite subfolder of the Examples
folder.
Otherwise, I'm not quite sure what you're asking. If you need values for
comparison, you'll have to convert the formulas to values yourself?
