Error for the first one, a numeric '5' for the second

That means the add-in can't even pull the web page from the Internet. There
would be nothing I can do about that.

What you see with the IE object within EXCEL may shed light on why the web
page can't be retrieved.

Is there an alternative way to access the IE object in Excel (dropdown menu?) - trying your key strokes seems not to pull up the IE object as described in earlier post.

The two methods I mentioned both work here. The alt+d+d+w keyboard shortcut
has worked with every version of EXCEL I've had, for well over a decade.
You should search on Google to find out how to do it with whatever version
of EXCEL you have. Something like:

https://www.google.com/search?q=EXCEL+%22web+query%22

My bad - I should not have taken up your time with that request - was keying wrongly and now have browser loaded but presumably need html address to paste into excel browser bar?

I'd be interested to see what you get with these URLs:

https://finance.yahoo.com/q/ks?s=MMM
https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/MMM/key-statistics

http://www.pinlady.net/PluginDetect/IE/

Do you see the key statistics web page with the first two? Note that the IE
object within EXCEL often has a lot of scripting errors when it renders the
web page.

With the first two I get the internet explorer 'cannot connect to the internet" error page. With http://www.pinlady.net/PluginDetect/IE/ http://www.pinlady.net/PluginDetect/IE/ I get a page detailing my IE version.

It seems the problems are likely caused by my IE version not being compatible with possible changes by yahoo. I have noticed other pages that used to load have started generating error message.

Will Install on PC with more recent IE version see if that solves the problem.

My apologies for taking up your time with a problem at my end.

as always thanks for making smf add in available and for your user support.

For the first two I get the "cannot connect to internet" error page and for the third one I get a page detailing my IE version etc.

It seems the problem is my browser - likely because it is an old version it has not been able to cope with changes to Yahoo? I have noticed other pages that used to load have stopped loading and assume changed and not backward compatible.

I will install on alter browser version PC and see how that works.

Many thanks for your help and apologies for taking up your time with a problem at my end.

As always thank you for making the smf add in available and for your support to users.

So how would you handle the stock splits and stock dividends?

Couldn't you just pick up the year-end yields from something like:

http://performance.morningstar.com/Performance/stock/annual-dividends.action?y=25&t=MMM

Or estimate the unadjusted closes using the adjusted prices and the
dividend amounts? Since the dividends are paid out during the year, the
yield is really just an estimate anyway. For example, if the entire
dividend amount for the year were paid on the 1st day of the year or the
last day of the year, the yield would be the same, but the meaning to the
stock holder could be quite different.
