This formula returns #VALUE in the cell: =RCHCreateComment("AAPL",1) with the explanation that one of the values is the wrong data type.
I don't know how I could possibly screw up something this simple, but apparently I have. What am I doing wrong?

Looks fine to me. I copied and pasted it and it worked fine here.

It could be the version of EXCEL you are using doesn't support it. It's
doing something that shouldn't be allowed (having a function do anything
other than place a value into a cell). In the old days, that was known as
"an undocumented feature". :)
