The template is working fine for me, using ticker symbol MMM. What do you
get with:

=RCHGetElementNumber("MMM", 3308)
=smfGetAParms(3308)
=RCHGetElementNumber("Version")
=RCHGetTableCell("http://www.google.com/finance?fstype=ii&q=MMM
",1,"INCANNUALDIV",">Revenue")
=RCHGetWebData("http://www.google.com/finance?fstype=ii&q=MMM
",">Revenue",50)
=RCHGetWebData("http://www.google.com/finance?fstype=ii&q=MMM",1,30)
=RCHGetTableCell("https://www.google.com/finance?fstype=ii&q=MMM
",1,"INCANNUALDIV",">Revenue")
=RCHGetWebData("https://www.google.com/finance?fstype=ii&q=MMM
",">Revenue",50)
=RCHGetWebData("https://www.google.com/finance?fstype=ii&q=MMM",1,30)

How did you edit the links?

It appears your machine isn't handling Google's web page redirections. The
element definitions use this URL:

http://www.google.com/finance?fstype=ii&q=MMM

...but Google is redirecting that to:

https://www.google.com/finance?fstype=ii&q=MMM

...just changing the "http" protocol to "https".

Problem solved: Tips and FAQs, Links, excel 2010

mironm http://seekingalpha.com/user/6873981/comments Comment (1) http://seekingalpha.com/user/6873981/comments

Derek, Ron, Chuck,

From the SMF message board, the IE setting needing to be changed are:

In Internet Explorer : Tools, Internet Options, Security, Custom Level button (for the zone that's currently highlighted); Find the 'Access Data Sources Across Domains' option and set to 'Enable'. Click OK to save the settings change.

This was useful for getting advfn data from outside the US (in my case Australia)

(thanks to laveys for providing the solution)

Hi
I am new to all this and based in the UK and would like to use this function. Have downloaded etc the info and installed, and it works for US stocks.
No I want to be able to use UK stocks etc but i can not figure where this bit fits
=smfGetTagContent("http://www.londonstockexchange.com/exchange/searchengine/search.html?lang=en&x=0&y=0&q=AAA","td",1,"Total Results:",">Symbol","AAA")

Any help appreciated -thanks

That gets you the link, the URL, for the data that belongs to ticker symbol
AAA. That is:

<a href="
http://www.londonstockexchange.com/exchange/prices-and-markets/stocks/summary/company-summary.html?fourWayKey=VGG017801082GBGBXASQ1&lang=en">All
Asia Asset Capital Limited Ord Npv (Di)</a>

You'd extract the URL out of there, and then use that URL in other
functions to get the desired data. For example::

D16: =smfGetTagContent("
http://www.londonstockexchange.com/exchange/searchengine/search.html?q=AAA","td",1,"Total
Results:",">Symbol","AAA")
D17: =smfStrExtr(D16,"""","""")
D18: =RCHGetTableCell(D17,1,"FTSE Sector")

...would get you the FTSE Sector. This roundabout method is needed because
you can't use the ticker symbol to get directly to the data page.

HI. A New User Question:

I am having trouble downloading the SMF Add-in, for a peculiar reason.

I inherited a spreadsheet to maintain which uses SMF. I was able to download SMF Add-in to my hard drive at C:\SMF Add-in. However, the spreadsheet was based on loading SMF in a different directory.

All the cell references start with:
='C:\Program Files\SMF Add-in\RCH_Stock_Market_Functions.xla'

So, I set up a sub-directory in Program Files called SMF Add-in, and cut/pasted all the files I had downloaded into that directory. However, the spreadsheet would not recognize the program placed in that directory, even though the syntax was equivalent to each other. When I tried to update the spreadsheet I got the "#NAME" response.
(I enabled the add-in manager (alt+t+i) and checked the box.)

I figured I might have done something wrong at original download, so I deleted the entire Add-in completely and went back to the download page. When I tried to download, I specified the C:\Program Files\SMF Add-in directory location, but I received an error message - see below (I have administrator status on this PC). After multiple tries, I reverted to downloading to the original directory –
C:\SMF Add-in

That download was successful. Further, if I go into the spreadsheet I am able to change the cell reference in each cell, simply deleting the portion that says \Program Files and Excel returns the correct data requested. However, other people are using this spreadsheet, and it seems to work for them using the Program Files directory. I want to avoid telling others they need to change their downloaded add-in, since they are users not techies, and "they were here first".

So, what is the trick to getting the Add-in to download to the C:\Program Files\SMF Add-in directory location?

I'm running a 3-year old HP PC with Windows 7, Excel 2010, and I'm downloading from Yahoo using Google Chrome for my browser.

Since this is a shared workbook, I suspect once I get the add-in downloaded into program files, I'll face the issues described here>
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/smf_addin/conversations/topics/11346 https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/smf_addin/conversations/topics/11346

Oh – the error message I got looked like this:

Don't change the location of your add-in based on a workbook you open. It
will have a path based on whatever location the saver of the workbook had
for THEIR add-in. So, any workbook could literally expect to have the
add-in in almost ANY location.

Instead, fix the locations in your workbook. Once you save it, it will save
the location of YOUR add-in. So the next time you open it, you won't have
the same issue.

I'm currently using the C:\SMF Add-in folder, because Vista wouldn't allow
me to change the XLA file when it was located in the Program Files folder.
All workbooks on the website will use that location, since I am typically
updating them before uploading them to the web site. That means they are
saved with MY add-in location.

Windows 7 may also be finicky about what can happen in the Program Files
directory.

The easiest thing is just to use the smfFixLinks macro whenever you have a
hard-coded location on your functions. I have it assigned to a toolbar
button and use it regularly.
