members familiar with the add-in. However, it would be better to look for a
site that offers extensive data not just P/E. Incidentally, I found a site
that gives 10 year data on Indian stocks today: http://www.way2wealth.com/

Maybe you can try to use the smf add-in for this site, and if you get
stuck, ask for assistance in this forum.

All the best,

Hi all,

I am trying to utilize this file that Dan-carroll was so kind to upload, but it doesn't update the info when I change the ticker. It has put references to the xla file on the C: drive in the cells, even though I have my files setup in the same exact locations. What do I need to do to get this file working?

Thank you,

Jim

Hmmm. If your files were in the same location AND pointed at by the add-in
manager, the references should have been resolved automatically by EXCEL.

In any case, you can manually fix that. Either try running the smfFixLinks
macro from the add-in or check out the "Location Error" entry in the LINKS
area of the Yahoo group.

I should also mention that element #25 from MSN now returns the closing
price of the previous day. That's how MSN defined "Last Price" when they
updated the print page for stocks. Instead, I would use:

=RCHGetYahooQuotes(A1,"l1")

Randy, I updated the file accordingly. Happy to make any other
changes that people suggest.

Dan, I noticed a few areas that seems to be broke in my case.

1. Cells O2 – S2 return "Error" =RCHGetTableCell("http://www.gurufocus.com/financials/"&$A$1,O$3,"except for per share",">"&$B2) in my copy A1 thru b3 is a merged cell defined as Ticker
2. Rows 87 – 96 are totally blank except a return "Error" =RCHGetElementNumber(Ticker,1)
3. Row "N" has no heading, but I noticed starting in Cell N130 thru N136 they are Averages I would enter AVG in Cell N129
4. I was a little confused as to what rows 123 thru 128 were the growth rate of. Seems to me those rows should be right after row 24
5. I noticed a later email that you had made a change. I downloaded at 9:55am U.S. EST so I may not have latest level. So might I suggest that you include a version level maybe in cell C4.

Just my thoughts, but I must admit I am not one who uses this information for making trades. So my opinions may not be of value to those that use this data.

VERY NICE JOB, I'm sure many user will find this very helpful.

Unfortunately, I am getting the same error I posted about earlier, before Dan did an update.

It is still giving showing it's pointing to the c: drive vs. the Internet site. I haven't gotten a chance to search and try the remedies Randy mentioned yet.

I'm only posting to say the update didn't seem to do anything.

Best,

Jim

The file opened fine for me. Two issues I noted:

1. Cell C135 has a #REF error...

2. For me, rows 138 and 139 show up as "######" because the format is
too wide for the columns. You can probably drop everything to the right of
the decimal point.

Hi Randy,

I did the "replace all" as recommended in the Links section. The cells are still not updating when I enter a new ticker in the top left of the spreadsheet. The cells all look normal, but still have the data for MSFT.

I have no idea what is wrong. I have noticed another issue that wondered if it was normal. When I constructed my other spreadsheet extracting data from gurufocus, with about 20—30 tickers and about 6 data requests, the spreadsheet goes grey initially for several seconds, gives me "not responding" for several seconds and after about around a full minute to 90 seconds, the data comes up. Of course if I have more tickers, it's slower still.

Is that normal? If not, what would cause this and could this issue be related to the fact that Dan's file is not working on my computer?

Thanks,

Jim

I just tried getting data items for the 30 DJIA stocks. Yes, the GuruFocus
website is VERY slow. Took several minutes, actually.

I tried it again with smfUpdateDownloadTable so I could time each request
individually. Most took under a second, but some took as long as 20 seconds.

Jim, Kermit & Randy.

Jim, I can't help you with those issues unfortunately. Randy is
literally years ahead of any advice I could offer.

Kermit & Randy, I fixed the issues you described, see my answers
on the new Topic that I just started. No doubt there are plenty
of other bugs. I have only just built the model and tend to
discover issues when I try it on different stocks. Part of the
issue is that GuruFocus doesn't build in "zeroes" for standard
items if they are not in the reported data - they just delete the
line altogether.

Kermit - what ticker were you using - it would help me to
replicate the issues you were having, and I'll see if I can fix
them.

I hope to have this thing more or less settled in within a week
or two, so I've started another message thread to help collect
the bugs and fixes and update the sheet accordingly.

Hi again,

OK, I am perplexed by this. I just went to check on the Add-Ins and the SMF addin is in a different location than when I set it up.

Why/how would it move from the c:/program files/smf add-in/ folder to the AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/AddIns folder?

And when I tried to point Excel back to the program files folder, it says "A file named c:\Program Files\SMF Add-In\RCH_Stock_Market_Functions.xla already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it?"

Do I?

What is the deal with this?

Thanks,

Jim

This string is to isolate fixes needed on the 10 year
GuruFocus-based model. I will flag that I am nowhere near in the
league of Randy & co, so if VB skills are needed, I'm out. This
is just my best effort at producing something to replace the 10
year ADVfn model by Mr. McGinnis, which was so helpful to me.

Formatting changes I can do, but I'd rather prioritize bugs and
errors.

I'd also welcome anyone else having a go at building on this.
Just please attach a version number and flag the changes on this
thread.

One last note: though Gurufocus does standardize the data, not
all fields occur for each stock. If the sheet attempts to pull
data that isn't there, you will get "Error". In some cases where
I've gotten this I've modified the rows to put zeroes if "Error"
is returned, but I haven't done it for the whole sheet (too lazy
I guess :-)) The data for "Inventory" and "Days Inventory" and
"Inventory Turnover" were examples. See the light green blocked
data on rows 117/118 of v3 for an example.

I have just uploaded Version 3 of the sheet

Changes made in previous iteration:

· Stock Price in A4 – changed to
=RCHGetYahooQuotes(Ticker,"l1"), per Randy's Suggestion

Issues addressed this iteration (v3):

Kermit:

1. Cells O2 – S2 return "Error"
=RCHGetTableCell("http://www.gurufocus.com/financials/
<http://www.gurufocus.com/financials/> "&$A$1,O$3,"except for per
share",">"&$B2) in my copy A1 thru b3 is a merged cell defined
as Ticker

· I went back and did a global change of $A$1 to
Ticker. That was an oversight on my part, for which I apologize.
I'm not used to producing sheets for others to use, so I
tend to skimp on the cleanup and user-friendliness.

· Which ticker are you using? The sheet had some
problems with companies that have a short history, which I hoped
I had fixed, but maybe not. Let me know the ticker and
I'll see what I error I get and try to come up with a fix.

2. Rows 87 – 96 are totally blank except a return
"Error" =RCHGetElementNumber(Ticker,1)

· That block should return the "company
description" from MSN. It does for some tickers, not for
others. You can delete it if you want.

3. Row "N" has no heading, but I noticed
starting in Cell N130 thru N136 they are Averages I would enter
AVG in Cell N129

· Done. Also put the label in Row 5. The column is
mostly there to separate annual from quarterly numbers, but for
valuation I thought I'd throw in some averages

4. I was a little confused as to what rows 123 thru 128 were
the growth rate of. Seems to me those rows should be right after
row 24

· On location, I prefer to get the three financial
statements in first. Feel free to move the rows around as you
prefer. If a lot of people would prefer that format, let me know
and I'll do it.

· As to what they are the growth rates of, I thought
the rows were labeled clearly. They are Y/Y growth rates for
Revenues, EBITDA, etc. Let me know if the labeling is confusing.

5. I noticed a later email that you had made a change. I
downloaded at 9:55am U.S. EST so I may not have latest level. So
might I suggest that you include a version level maybe in cell
C4.

· The only change in that version was to the price in
A4, as noted above.

Randy:

Cell C135 has a #REF error...

· Fixed – my bad.

For me, rows 138 and 139 show up as "######" because the format
is too wide for the columns. You can probably drop everything to
the right of the decimal point.

· Done. I tend to look at smaller cap stocks, so I
left a single decimal place for the income, balance sheet and CF
statements.

Other Changes:

I went ahead and moved some of the data from below the 3 major
statements around – moved margins and growth to just below
description block, as I think those are higher priority. I also
moved some of the balance sheet measures to the balance sheet
block from "Misc" and Capital Efficiency. Also
renamed "Capital Efficiency" to
"Returns"

As noted at the top, I also modified certain rows where the data
is not always there, to replace "Error" messages with zeroes -
"Treasury Stock" is an example.

Version 4 is up.

I changed the dates at the top so that you have a numeric date
there now instead of a text string.

Data that is pulled from GuruFocus is taken over with an ISNUMBER
check to clean up the sheet.

"Treasury Stock" is an example.

All the data is in error and #value; any suggestion what is missing?
Could it be older SMF functions versions?
Any instructions how to work it?

I am trying to import headlines (with links) into excel. I have a
process that gets me the most recent 20 headlines. What i am
looking to do is import the next 20 headlines with the ability to
keep hitting next for an additional 20. Any thoughts on this?
