Hi,
I'm trying to logging in to the ibd website using the Get Web Data functionality. been doing it for 3-4 years. recently and even today, i cannot get a proper login screen to show up in the browser window. the first screen shows up with a login link, but after ESC'ing all the error messages and stopping the first page, then clicking on the login link, all i get is a mostly blank screen. I've tried putting my email address in the one entry box that seems to show up, but afterhitting enter, nothing shows up..
I've contacted IBD and they say they don't support. So, i'm about to cancel out of IBD and find an alternative.
Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions. I'd hate to give up on a process that I've developed and used for many years, but.....
Thanks,
Mike
p.s. my machine is window 10, excel 2010. but i've tried this with windows 7, excel 2016 and windows 10, excel 2016. same behavior.

You are trying to get to login screen within the browser in Excel, right?
Please confirm. I've had good luck not "escaping" but instead choosing"No"
to loading more scripts and then being able to login.

Sorry, but I don't want to try it now in case it would screw something up.
:(

However, if my notes are correct, the last time I logged in, I used this
URL in the IE object within EXCEL:

https://myibd.investors.com/secure/signin.aspx

I usually just close out any scripting error box that comes up. I don't use
ESC, because if you hit it too many times successively, it closes the
dialog completely. After the web page is displayed, with no more error
boxes coming up, I click on the red "X" on the top line several times --
it's to the right of the web address that was entered. In many cases when I
log in to a site, this seems to be a necessary step.

In most cases, my login credentials are already saved by IE, so it doesn't
take much to get logged in.

Hope that helps...

oh yes, the browser in excel is what's not working. i've tried hitting yes to the error msg, no, and even ESC'ing every time.. just not working. worked rather okay for several years until about a month or so ago.

BTW, anyone know of good alternatives to IBD? ranking of stocks and industry groups,, etc. i don;t mind paying a reasonable fee.

oh yes, that particular link, in Firefox, brings me to a login page. but, alas, in Excel's web browser, no page shows up. a few scripting error boxes, then nothing. a status bar in the bottom right fills about halfway, but then stops. hitting the Stop red x leads nowhere, although about six months ago or so, it used to.
i'mm stumped.
looking for an alternative to IBD......
thanks,
Mike

Zacks and Barchart both have industry groups and such.

They, and Stockscores, have a lot of ratings and technical scoring.

I stand corrected.  I separated my Expiry Dates source from the Data Source.  I wasn't aware that G, OX, Y, and B defaulted to Y.

smfGetOptionExpirations
Changing source from B to Y on the Expiry Dates causes no changes.

smfGetOptionStrikes Changing source from B to Y on Data Source causes changes.

Subject: Re: [smf_addin] Problem with smfGetOptionExpirations()

Except that smfGetOptionExpirations() doesn't get expirations from Barchart. It actually gets them from Yahoo. I didn't want to require someone to have to use separate "Source" codes for the different option functions, so instead of not allowing "B" for smfGetOptionExpirations(), I just had it go to Yahoo as a substitute.

On this page:

Is it possible to extract decreases from the series of divs (<font color="red"> for instance), or do your tools only work with tables?

Thanks

You would use the smfGetTagContent() function to extract data from within
paired HTML tags.

However, finding each one with that function alone would be tedious. If all
you want is the decreases, you're probably going to have to do a cascading
extraction with RCHGetWebData() to find each one first and then do
specialized extraction of each.

Hi,

can somebody advice a website with a "dividend frequency" value (monthly, quarterly, etc.) to extract?

GuruFocus appears to have it. Try:

=smfGetTagContent("https://www.gurufocus.com/dividend/
"&C4,"td",6,">Ex-Date","<tr")

Otherwise, you could count the number of dividends paid in the past year,
using Yahoo historical quotes:

=COUNT(smfGetYahooHistory(C4,B4-365,+B4,"v",,0,,20,2))/2

I'm using IE version 11

I get www.yahoo.com http://www.yahoo.com site when ALT+D+D+W

And, yes, I can see the historical quotes for MMM

My problem now is that sometimes I get data and sometimes I don't. For example, for SPY, I may get data for October, but not for November and December. All I get is "ERROR".

A couple of times I went back to the ADD-INS and uncheck the Stock Market Functions Add-in and then re-check again, and it works.

Now, it doesn't.

I'm just at a lost now.

What did you get with this URL in the IE object within EXCEL:

http://www.pinlady.net/PluginDetect/IE/

In any case, if neither of these work:

=RCHGetWebData("
https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/MMM/history?period1=1512950400&period2=1513123200&interval=1d&filter=history&frequency=1d
","HistoricalPriceStore",200)
=RCHGetWebData("
https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/MMM/history?period1=1512950400&period2=1513123200&interval=1d&filter=history&frequency=1d
","""open"":236",200)

....then none of smfGetYahooHistory(), RCHGetYahooHistory(),
smfPricesByDates(), or smfPricesBetween() will work, because they all use a
form of that first function to get the raw data in the first place.

The only other thing I can think to try is to try and remove the add-in
altogether, and then re-install it:

1. Go to the add-in manager and uncheck the add-in.
2. Exit EXCEL.
3. Physically delete the add-in folder (or at least change the name of the
folder temporarily).
4. Restart EXCEL. Hopefully, it will ask you about the add-in? Either way,
go into the add-in manager and see if it is still there. It should be gone.
If it does still exist, check to see where it is located, and see if you
can run the function to get the version.
5. Exit EXCEL

6. Restore the folder and the add-in files.
7. Restart EXCEL.
8. Go to the add-in manager and reactivate the add-in from that folder.
Check the version again.
9. Exit EXCEL
10. Restart EXCEL. Check the version.

Try those two functions above, plus an smfGetYahooHistory() function.

Another thing that might be worth trying:

=smfStripHTML(smfGetTagContent("http://www.pinlady.net/PluginDetect/IE/","div",-1,"Your
browser is",,,,,,1))

I usually get "Error" with that the first time I use it, but if I do an
smfForceRecalculation I get:

"Internet Explorer Browser Detector

Your browser is IE: true
Your IE browser version: 11
----------------------------------------------------------
True IE browser version (independent of userAgent, document mode, or
browser mode): null
IE browser version (derived from navigator.userAgent): 11
IE browser document mode: 11"

That should be the actual browser software? Or, with:

=smfStripHTML(smfGetTagContent("http://www.pinlady.net/PluginDetect/IE/","div",-1,"Your
browser is",,,,,,2))

....I get (this should be the IE object within EXCEL):

"Internet Explorer Browser Detector

Your browser is IE: true
Your IE browser version: 11.15
----------------------------------------------------------
True IE browser version (independent of userAgent, document mode, or
browser mode): 11.15.16299.0
IE browser version (derived from navigator.userAgent): 7
IE browser document mode: 7"
