Those five characters don't look like tildas, as in ~~~~~

The process replaces five consecutive tildas with the value from the ticker
column. So if you use a different character, you're going to get an error.

I use Win 7 computer where I have the "user" pw, but NOT the admin Pw. also I do not seem to have access to c:\programs files\

so, Is it possible to install SMF zip to a usb drive and run it from usb

Yes my machine has XL / office 2010 and windows on it

Sorry , I posted a tad too early.

I have copied the files to my USB dive and when I change the path in the formule it is working , at least the sp sheets that I checked !!

So, I will come back SHOULD there be more need

You don't have to install the add-in in the program files folder. It can be
installed anywhere including a USB drive.
But the USB drive has to be plugged in before you open EXCEL. I can't
imagine why you want to do that unless your spreadsheets are also on that
USB drive.
Also, it is possible that your USB drive will not always gets the same drive
number every time you plug it in. For this reason, I recommend you keep it
on the hard drive.

I installed the add-in on the "C" drive in its own folder - SMFADDIN. You
can name the folder anything you want. The negative of doing this is you
have to change the links every time you download someone else's workbook.
But only the first time you open the workbook. That is not much of a problem
because Excel pops up a window on open, just click "Edit Links"

1. I have downloaded the RCH_Stock_market_funtions zip file
2. unzipped it in the USB drive
3, USB gets the same drive letter every time
4. the RCH_Stock_market_funtions xla is found in the directory where the zip file is un zipped
4.1. as mentioned in my earlier mail I have opened a few random sample files Randy has been kind enough to give us ...they work

I agree with Randy that is I have no clue why it is getting that error. Read my best guest below.

The smfforcecalculate VBA code is in the modUtilities module. You might Verify it is known to VBA
1. click the developer task bar and
2. select Visual Basics
3. Expand the RCH_Stock_Market_Functions
4. Expand the Modules
5. Select and double click the ModUtilities
6. Smfforcecalculate is the first sub in the module.

I'm pretty sure it is there. VBA has rules about calling other projects. I ran into that when I was trying to call smfupdateDownloadTable. I ended up having to write this code. So it could be you will have to do the same for calling the Smfforcecalculate function.

When I download and try to open the spreadsheet I get this error when changing the links to point to my location for SMF-ADDIN.
The error the worksheet contains one or more invalid references. Such as an invalid path, etc. Unfortunately, Microsoft Excel fails to give any help as to where the invalid path might be.
I suspect the error is because the attempt to go across VBA projects.
I am in no way a VBA expert. I struggle with every error and end up calling my son for help.

I tried changing the VBA code where it called the SMFrecalculate and it took excel down. I ended up having to delete the spreadsheet and start over. Sorry, I can't resolve your problem.
For whatever reason it does not like the call.

Just updated - tried to open spreadsheet and installed the add-in just fine. The spreadsheet and all functions worked perfectly. However, I've tried to save the spreadsheet with the add-ins installed three times now and each time it closed on its own. Anyone else have any experience with 13? I did try to save it to my dropbox and I don't know if that would have something to do with it. Thanks.

You should use the "Send Feedback" link at the bottom of the Key Statistics
page and let Yahoo know that their trailing dividend is incorrect...
