Why would anyone want to build a stock screener when there are tons of free one. Plus, hundreds more fee based one.
Try these free ones -- <http://www.finviz.com/screener.ashx> FinBiz <http://www.stockfetcher.com> Stockfetcher <http://www.marketwatch.com/tools/stockresearch/screener/> MarketWatch <http://screener.finance.yahoo.com/stocks.html> Yahoo
Or try http://www.freestockcharts.com/ where you can build your own screening criteria.
But don't miss use this great tool.

I'm always impressed with the knowledge base of this group so I thought I'd throw this out as I've been scratching my head. Has anyone built a stock screener in Excel? I've been building some financial analysis spreadsheets and have no problem analyzing a single company but I'd like to make custom screens to sort through and return companies that meet my criteria. My programming knowledge is pretty basic but I haven't found anything out in cyberspace that describes how one would go about doing this.
Thanks in advance.

I noticed today that the drop down box to change the years for
financials statements started working again (at least for the
last 15 years) so I decided to throw together a quick spreadsheet
to pull the data using =RCHGETHTMLTABLE()
I've tested it on a few tickers, and it seems to work well for
them.
I'm sure it could be modified by someone to be more elegant, but
it works for my needs.

My cell values are not automatically updating. I have to double
click on the cell to see the formula and once i hit enter to jump
to the cell below, the above cell's value changes/updates.
Any suggestions?

Sounds like either the spreadsheet is not in automatic calculation mode, or
you have location errors. Do the formulas have paths in front of them? If
so, they need to be resolved. See the "Location Errors" item in the LINKS
area of the group.
Otherwise, I need more info. Is this a new workbook? Or one that you
created? Or one that someone else created?

Hi,
I double checked and my workbook is set to automatic calculation. This is a workbook that I created. When I open it i get the following notification:
I click update and I get the following:
I say continue. Once I am in the spreadsheet, the values update when i double click on the cell revealing the formula, for example: =RCHGetYahooQuotes($C5,"L1","ca","NOW()" for my formula corresponding to last price. When I hit enter, it updates the last price of the stock otherwise, the prices remain the same.
Thanks,
Jack

Looks like there were supposed to be images in your email, but I don't see
them, either in GMail or on the Yahoo group using FIreFox.
If it is a "links" problem, I would suggest fixing them manually (as
described in the LINKS area of the group, or by using the add-in's
smfFixLinks macro). In the past, I've found "Edit Links" to be unreliable
in fixing the workbook so things work properly.

Hi Randy - could I ask you for another favor? Would you create element numbers for the M* opinion-list page?
I am specially interested in the Five-Year Growth Forecast and Average Rating
http://financials.morningstar.com/valuation/analyst-opinion-list.action?t=MMM
Five-Year Growth Forecast 8.80%
Average Rating 3.20
Regards,
Jose L. Jacob
