be very careful about using beta values reported by yahoo, reuters, tos, and
others.

it is often 'hard-coded', especially when it's for inverse or leveraged
products.

beta is a slow moving metric, technically the 60-period, monthly co-variance
with SPX (and only closed periods, so the inter-month stock value is not
captured until the month/period has closed. so any october information
won't be captured until after the month is over.)

you can plot this value on tos using 'studies' and 'beta', making sure you
are using 'monthly' data and viewing the latest 'closed' bar (e.g.,
september 2011, as of today), and resetting the period from the default
value of 21 to 60.

unless you have a long term trading strategy, beta has little value for
short-term, hi frequency trades.

and, of course, be sure to know if the beta calculation uses 'adjusted' or
'un-adjusted' stock values (i.e., adjusted for dividends).

tos uses 'un-adjusted' values, while prophet 'adjusts' for dividends -- just
take a look at MO for an example.

know what you trade; trade what you know...

=RCHGetElementNumber("MO",972)

This should get it for you.  Beware that it may not be accurate.
