clark, would you mind sharing your code with us? i had been using this: =rchgetyahoohistory(B23,B2,B3,B4,B5,B6,B7,B8,B26,B10,B11,B12) in an array format to pull the dow jones industrial average high, low, and close - for 2000 records.

bushpilote,

thanks for the update - just curious why all of your results are in the 5 thousands while the current dow values are in the 12 thousands? i can see the historical prices but my formula for "rchgetyahoohistory" is still not working for some reason... the search continues...

RCHGetYahooHistory() won't work. Although they are providing web pages with
historical quotes, they aren't providing the CSV file used by the
RCHGetYahooHistory() function.

Hello all,

Yahoo now works for DOW historical prices(at least for web queries) if you use the symbol INDU.

Aha! I think this is a new Yahoo "feature".

If you try running RCHGetYahooHistory() during the day, you'll notice the
current day's quote is in there, for whatever has happened so far today.

So when they prepare for the next day, in the after market hours, they must
be repeating the latest closing date twice, to make room for the next day's
trading data...

Certainly nice to have during the market day, but it does present a problem
for after hours.

Thu Jul 5, 2012 9:12 am (PDT) . Posted by: "colinmmoors" colinmmoors
exactly - and after hours (when they duplicate the previous day), the data is often different (different open, high, low, close, volume) for the two rows which have the same date! problem is, rchgetyahoohistory is pulling data from the row that has incorrect data (the upper row) rather than the duplicated row just below it.

Good morning Randy,
In using the latest BarChart quotes extract I uncovered a problem with the monthly data. The closing prices in Column K show up as "#Values".

This is due to the monthly "date" section of the tooltip in Column D having one less character string then all other period charts from the 5-minute to the weekly.

One way of fixing this problem is to modify the formulae in H13:K13 by adding an if statement to handle the monthly data:

H13: =IF(ISERROR($B13),"--",IF($G$3<>"MO - Monthly Chart",VALUE(SUBSTITUTE(smfWord($E13,6,","),"'","")),VALUE(SUBSTITUTE(smfWord($E13,5,","),"'",""))))

I13: =IF(ISERROR($B13),"--",IF($G$3<>"MO - Monthly Chart",VALUE(SUBSTITUTE(smfWord($E13,7,","),"'","")),VALUE(SUBSTITUTE(smfWord($E13,6,","),"'",""))))

J13: =IF(ISERROR($B13),"--",IF($G$3<>"MO - Monthly Chart",VALUE(SUBSTITUTE(smfWord($E13,8,","),"'","")),VALUE(SUBSTITUTE(smfWord($E13,7,","),"'",""))))

K13: =IF(ISERROR($B27),"--",IF($G$3<>"MO - Monthly Chart",VALUE(SUBSTITUTE(smfWord($E27,9,","),"'","")),VALUE(SUBSTITUTE(smfWord($E27,8,","),"'",""))))

......and copying them all down to row 276.

I see that Yahoo has reinstated their price history for the Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI), but the RCHGetYahooHistory function will not return the data.

RCHGetYahooHistory still works with ^GSPC (S&P 500) and ^IXIC (Nasdaq Composite), but not ^DJI.

Does anyone have suggestions for a workaround to get Dow Jones Industrial Average historical prices in an Excel worksheet using one of Randy's functions?

GetCSVFile() or GetHTMLTable() through Yahoo Finance or Google Finance?

Thanks.

Thu Jul 5, 2012 8:17 am (PDT) . Posted by: "Randy Harmelink" rharmelink
There is no download button on the historical quotes page for ^DJI, so they
probably don't have the CSV file available. That would mean getting it a
page at a time.

You might get the data from GOOGLE by using the symbol IDEXDJX:DJI. I had the same problem with yahoo, using my web query spreadsheet.

Subject: [smf_addin] RCHGetYahooHistory function not working with reinstated ^DJI price history?

I see that Yahoo has reinstated their price history for the Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI), but the RCHGetYahooHistory function will not return the data.

RCHGetYahooHistory still works with ^GSPC (S&P 500) and ^IXIC (Nasdaq Composite), but not ^DJI.

Does anyone have suggestions for a workaround to get Dow Jones Industrial Average historical prices in an Excel worksheet using one of Randy's functions?

GetCSVFile() or GetHTMLTable() through Yahoo Finance or Google Finance?

Thanks.

Hi,

I tried to use RCHGetTableCell to retrieve historical closing price from google. I tried to retrieve one day as a start:

https://www.google.com/finance/historical?q=HKG:0005&startdate=Jul+4%2C+2012&enddate=Jul+4%2C+2012&num=30
I am always getting "Error" from the function:

=RCHGETTABLECELL("https://www.google.com/finance/historical?q=HKG:0005&startdate=Jul+4%2C+2012&enddate=Jul+4%2C+2012&num=30",5,"gf-table historical_price","Volume")

Can someone help?

Regards,
Simon

Neither RCHGetTableCell() nor RCHGetHTMLTable() will work on the Google
page, as they have improperly coded HTML tables (no ending tag for a table
cell).

Take a look at this template for a way to use the smfGetTagContent()
function instead:

Hello all,

=RCHGetYahooHistory("EURUSD=X";YEAR([Date]);MONTH([Date]);DAY([Date]);YEAR([Date]);MONTH([Date]);DAY([Date]);;"C";0)

it works, but I only have 2 decimal digits instead of 4.
How can i get the full price?

I'm shocked it works at all -- they don't show any historical quotes on the
web site. In any case, their historical quotes only go out to 2 digits of
significance.
