I agree with Tom, a) you need to diversify to help protect from
unsystematic risk (imo at least a dozen stocks) and b) when you choose each
stock you should decide a price at which you will consider the stock a
loser and sell even if it means taking a loss (if you've diversified
presumably you can use to offset gains). Even Buffet sometimes gets losers.
