According to Yahoo, there was a 1-for-5 split on 9/30:

*Date* *Open* *High* *Low* *Close* *Volume* *Unadj* *Div Adj* *Split Adj*
*Dividend* *Split*
2013-10-01 $44.16 $44.43 $44.06 $44.39 483800 $51.17 0.867593715881983 1
2013-09-30 $43.94 $44.01 $43.69 $43.93 634300 $50.63 0.867593715881983 1 1

Randy:

I use historical prices and historical dividends (preferably
split-adjusted, both) to calculate historical yields. One of my buy/sell
signals is the current yield vs the range of historic yields - EG MCD
generally trades between 2.5% & 3.5%.

It's almost impossible to do this if the prices are dividend-adjusted.
Agreed that special dividends could mess-up this approach - but I've run
into very few such cases.

"According to Yahoo, there was a 1-for-5 split on 9/30"

I've examined my brokerage statements for the 2010-2012 period, and see several SNY transactions with prices in the $30-40 range, whereas the (pre-split) unadjusted closing prices returned by Yahoo during this timeframe range between $6 and $10 / share. On 11/16/10 there appears to be another 1-for-10 split, which puts the pre-split stock price below $1.00 / share. Highly improbable for a company like Sanofi, I'd say.

"I use historical prices and historical dividends (preferably split-adjusted, both) to calculate historical yields."

I too do something like that with WFC-PL, where the dividend is a fixed percentage of the par value, and the meaningful price is unadjusted for dividends. Splits aren't an issue in this case.

Ahh...I am probably missing the view. I found those screens, but never
found the right view. Didn't connect the dots. Thanks, I'll look again.
I appreciate it!

Yup. I quickly threw together a custom view with a bunch of fields similar
to the 50-day moving average or performance...

Like I said, there are tons of fields.

Randy,

The spreadsheet opens fine, no messages. I clicked on macros on the ribbon and it doesn't show any macros including the smfFixLinks. The XLA is in a directory called SMF Add-in. The Options selection on the FILE tab allows me to check add-ins and it saysthe smfFixLinks XLA is active. IF I redo the add-in, that is using the options/add-in menu then the Get Quotes function loads the data BUT if I save the spreadsheet I'm back to #NAME? unless I do the add-in function again. This process does not help the Version function.

BTW the ADD-IN tab on the ribbon also shows no add-ins. So the strangeness is the options/add-in shows the add-in as active but nothing else shows the add-in ore the macro. I'm sure I'm doing something really wrong here just not sure what it is.

Try this:

1. Close EXCEL

2. Open EXCEL

3. Create a new workbook

4. Then use the "Version" function

If you get #NAME? back, it means the add-in is not active.

When you mention having to remove links, it mean EXCEL couldn't find the add-in (or the function) in that location and marked those as unresolved links. You should have gotten an error message when opening the workbook. Those unresolved links need to be resolved before the workbook will function properly -- it will give #NAME? errors for them, BECAUSE they are unresolved links.

The best way to remove such unresolved links is to use the smfFixLinks macro in the add-in.

=RCHGetElementNumber("Version")
and
=RCHGetYahooQuotes($A$7,"l1")
Still giving me #Name?

Randy,

Just tried to create a new workbook as you suggested. Version function returns #NAME? so apparently add-in is not active even though the add-in under EXCEL Options says it is active. Strange.

Randy,

I went backwards and reinstalled the XLA that's on the web site. Had to redo the add-in manager and it works fine with the RCHGetYahooQuotes function. However the RCHGetElementNumber("Version") returns #VALUE?. At least I'm back to extracting quotes. For some reason the 5/21/2017 version doesn't work with this spreadsheet:^ ( Do I have to change the =RCHGetYahooQuotes(#,#) somehow?

RCHGetYahooQuotes() wasn't changed.

The "Version" formula doesn't even do anything with the Internet. A #VALUE?
error often means the wrong type of parameter is being passed. I notice
your quotation below use a left double quote and a right double quote
instead of the normal double quote. Is that the problem?

As Craig suspects, you may have the Microsoft security issue, and need to
unblock he XLA file? See the link he cited:

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/smf_addin/conversations/messages/30568

The add-in would not show up on the Add-in Tab on the ribbon.
