It worked yesterday after the addin was added. It was this morning when I put in a new stock ticker (AAPL), that I got the error messages.

What is not working for you? Specifically?
I don't see how this would have worked yesterday if you added the add-in later...an add-in function should return the #NAME? error if the add-in hasn't been installed.

What were the error messages?

What do you get with:

=RCHGetElementNumber("Version")

Suddenly today when I open my spreadsheet using the SMF add-in, I get "Unable to set the installed property of the add-in class" (I was setting it to TRUE) and when I look at FILE > OPTIONS > ADD-INS, the SMF Add-in is disabled. When I go to the Trust Center, the SMF Add-In subdirectory is one of my trusted locations. Why is Microsoft fighting me and why did it suddenly quit working? It was working on Saturday. More importantly, how do I fix it? Any help or insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've never heard of that error message before. When I Google that error, I
found something that indicates the message means the path or file name
can't be found. Did you perhaps move the add-in?

Or, another possibility is that this may be the issue that occurred in July
of last year when MicroSoft issued some security updates. It's not letting
EXCEL load the add-in when EXCEL starts up. As a result, you are getting
link errors, because EXCEL can't resolve the links to the add-in.

For a workaround suggested by Microsoft, until they fix the issue, see:

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/smf_addin/conversations/messages/30568

Since you already have done the trust method, maybe try unblocking it?

Never mind, Randy. Somehow the add-in got turned off (probably some bit got dropped somewhere). Anyway, when I went to FILE > OPTIONS > ADD-INS > MANAGE ADD-INS > GO and turned it back on, suddenly God's in his heaven and all's right with the world. Thanks anyway. Next time I'll try working on it a little longer rather than bothering you because your expertise and time are better spent on bigger problems. I know I speak for most of us who really appreciate your support. Thanks again.

Randy,

I was hoping you might be able to help me retrieve the M* ETF "Rank in Category (NAV)" for the trailing 1,3,5 and 10 years.

I've gotten this far but I'm stuck.

=smfConvertData(smfStrExtr(SUBSTITUTE(smfGetTagContent("http://srt.morningstar.com/oprn/etf/c-performance.html?t="&a2,"td",1,"Rank in Category (NAV) Cell A http://srt.morningstar.com/oprn/etf/c-feesandexpense.html?t=SPHD2 would be: HYG for instance

Any help would be wonderful. Thanks again for all of your assistance over the years!

Joel

Your cited formula isn't complete, so I'm not sure what you were doing with
the smfStrExtr() and SUBSTITUTE() functions, but that URL doesn't exist
when I try it in my browser.

Try something like this to extract the 1-year rank:

=smfGetTagContent("
http://performance.morningstar.com/Performance/cef/trailing-total-returns.action?t="&A2,"td",6,"Rank
in Category (NAV)",,,,1)

Hi all, is it possible to pull in commodity prices (like ZW- Wheat/CME - Feeder Cattle) from for e.g. http://futures.tradingcharts.com/marketquotes/GF.html http://futures.tradingcharts.com/marketquotes/GF.html ? A bonus would be to pull in Commodity spread prices as well for the different contracts. Is this possible?

I'm not familiar with commodities, but I don't see anything called "spread"
on that web page, and the data table is within a frame, so the data is
actually on a different web page. You can retrieve the whole table with:

=RCHGetHTMLTable("http://data.tradingcharts.com/futures/quotes/GF.html
",">Chg")

...or you could get an individual price with something like:

=smfGetTagContent("http://data.tradingcharts.com/futures/quotes/GF.html
","td",4,"GFU17",,,,1)
