Phiiiuu... my spreadsheets are working again. Curiously including the c:\SMF Add-In\ directory in the trusted locations list didn't solve my problem. Only unblocking the .XLA file made my spreadsheets work again.

A million thanks to Randy and the forum members that posted the problem/fix.

For a moment I thought that the SMF will never work for me again. I went through the mental exercise of calculating the effort that would take doing manually the things that the SMF does by automation, I couldn't live without the SMF Add In. Thank you Randy very much again.

Windows 8.1
Excel 2013

Jose L. Jacob

       Thanks so much. That certainly
sounds like the problem. I've been searching for
something like that since this happened. I just recently
suggested adding the folder to the list of trusted
locations, but someone said that didn't work.

As a "workaround" until
they fix the problem, unblocking sound easier and less
risky. But I think it will need to be done every time a new
XLA is loaded. Until they fix the problem themselves.

The details for those of you that
are interested:

We
have a few options for workarounds. These are in order from
safest to riskiest.
The
best option is to move away from using HTML wrapped as
.XLS. If you use
native formats (e.g. XLS, XLSX, XLSB) which will open in
protected view
when untrusted, this will provide some level of protection
from the
documents being opened.

             You can unblock
access for individual files you know are safe. To do this:

                 Right-click the
file, and choose Properties.

                 On the General
tab, click Unblock.

                 Click OK.

You can make use of existing Trusted
Locations capabilities in Excel 2010, 2013, and 2016 via File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings
> Trusted
Locations.

You can save the web html file to a
trusted location
on the local machine (Excel comes with a set of default
trust
locations). If you do not see the local folder location you
trust for
these files, then press "Add new location…" button and
add it in the
Trusted Location dialog. If the HTML document is in a
trusted location
the KB fix is not applied (e.g. the unsafe HTML file is not
blocked). .

This approach may unblock you, but it
carries some
risk as files of any file type in Trusted Locations are
fully trusted.
If an attacker can drop files into the trusted location they
can easily
exploit users who open such documents. Be especially
cautious when
specifying a custom folder as a trusted
location.

Could be effect from the fact that Yahoo apparently uses different servers with different timestamps and requests are randomly assigned between servers - discussion on this over at elitetrader.com - search under 'Yahoo" should find it.

Hmm, interesting.. but how do I solve this?

Hi Randy, I've tried posting a complaint on the link above, but till now there's no one replying me there at yahoo..

Meanwhile, is there any function like rchgetyahoohistory function that could pull the history data from google finance instead of yahoo?

Thanks Randy! ^^

Mind if I ask why are you unhappy with the data from morningstar and google? is it because they're inacurrate? or because they didnt adjust?

Mostly because they don't adjust. But both also add in holidays, carrying
forward the previous closing price as O/H/L/C and setting volume to zero.
Screws up things using trading days or averages of any kind. They used to
do that on non-holidays as well, at a random pattern I never figured out.

The limited history is also an issue, as I sometimes do some backtesting on
indexes and ETFs. Market timing type stuff.

The NYSE exchange portal has a CSV file almost exactly like Yahoo, but it's
got some type of security that prevents the add-in from getting at it. But
it might not be a bad way to go if manually exporting the file works.

Otherwise, a good pay service would be best.

but I see both yahoo and google set the volume to 0 or "-"
though it's weird that on Oct 15 and 16, there are values on yahoo while none on google...

and oct 15 and 16 is not holiday in my country as well... there was a holiday on 14th October 2015 though

so why do they leave 15th and 16th october blank?
