Re: [ExcelVBA] Re: Transposition errors

Dear Saad

Just a thought, it is not unusual for long part numbers etc to have check digits. Are you sure this is not the case ?

Meanwhile the problem you have looks like a respectable challenge.

We have to depend upon the data entry operator to punch correct data, which is practically impossible in 100% cases.

I don't see how you would determine that any particular number had transposed digits unless there were another number to compare it to. You've not given us enough information to determine whether there is sufficient information in the list that you are checking to inspect for data entry errors. For example, any unique entry in the list you are checking might have transposed digits, but unless the "correct" number is also in that list (side comment: where might it be in relation to the suspect number?), you'd not catch the error.

The list usually contains duplicate values, which I have been able to identify using conditional formatting. However some times, the data entry operator makes transposition errors (for e.g. feeding 1243567 instead of 1234567). I need to identify those cells where at least 5 digits are identical so that I can manually decide whether there is an error in data entry.
