Dear Randy,
do you have any update on ADVFN data? Are you monitoring their
website changes? Do you think it would be possible to produce
updated SMF elements list in some near future? I beleive I am not
the only one who was devastated by the recent absence of this
data source (10 years of EPS, etc....).
Would you be so kind to give the community some info or at least
reassure us that you are monitoring the situation? :-)

Thank you very much, Ace

At this point, I don't see much value in converting things until they
implement the Beta version they have waiting in the background. Even for
the pages that appear to be working (for now), they have a disclaimer about
things not being updated properly.

Even so, I'm not sure the elements can be updated properly. It appears a
lot of things are missing in the new Beta version. And line items may not
match to what they were before.

Dave,

I'm n00b to Calc, so I only know to look for a .oxt file when to
add an extension. I didn't find one in the SMF Extension
package, though. So, which file do I use, and how do I instruct
Calc to use it?

Thanks.

Hi All,

I have written an extension for LibreOffice Calc that functions
similar to the SMF addin. It can be found at the LibreOffice
Extension center at
http://extensions.libreoffice.org/extension-center/smf-extension/
<http://extensions.libreoffice.org/extension-center/smf-extension\
/> . I know that an extension like this has been asked about
on this forum, and the group homepage states that LO is not
supported here. I hope that this info will help direct some
people to what they are looking for, and save Randy a bit of
time responding to questions that don't pertain to the Excel
SMF addin that is hosted here.

Thanks!
Dave

The Altman_Piotroski.xlsx workbook contains retrieves both Annual
and Quarterly Morningstar data for both the Income Statement and
the Balance Sheet.

Hey petekoch.

I am very new to all this. I am trying to use thee smfgetcsv
function. My question is how did you hard-code the URL to get
the exact table you want? I would greatly appreciate your
response. I have recently learned to write VBA I am trying my
best to learn quickly.

See the entry in the LINKS area of the group. It points to a message that
has the parameters of the MorningStar CSV files. Also, I just uploaded an
smfGetCSVFile() template for the financial statements files a few days ago.
It shows how changing the various parameters changes the output.

Thank you for the links!

Is there a way to learn how to generate links like the one you
provided? I am asking this because I am building a complex model.
I also asked a computer science professor today, and he wasn't
able to help me. I would like to be able to edit my links, if
morningstar changed its interface. We actually talked about the
SMF community and how generous some members (like yourself) are
here.

Go over the documentation and try a few things. There are examples in each
function's documentation.

And if you have trouble after trying a few things, just mention it here and
I'll (or we'll) try and get you on the right path.

One workbook you may want to use when playing around with things:

smfGetTagContent-Quick-Webpage-Examination.xls

Although I originally set it up as a template for smfGetTagContent, I added
templates for some of the basic functions in other worksheets, so that
someone can modify the various parameters and see what the result might be.

I often use it when looking at an extraction from a new web page.

Average Rating 3.20

http://financials.morningstar.com/valuation/annual-estimate-list.action?t=MMM

Thank you very much Randy.

Try:

=RCHGetTableCell("
http://financials.morningstar.com/valuation/analyst-opinion-list.action?t=MMM
",1,"Five-Year",,,,1,"</table")

=RCHGetTableCell("
http://financials.morningstar.com/valuation/analyst-opinion-list.action?t=MMM",1,"Average
Rating",,,,1,"</table")

=RCHGetTableCell("
http://financials.morningstar.com/valuation/annual-estimate-list.action?t=MMM
",3,"<table")

=RCHGetTableCell("
http://financials.morningstar.com/valuation/annual-estimate-list.action?t=MMM
",1,">Mean")

The rest just have different values for the number of table cells to skip.
