RE: [ExcelVBA] Reconfiguring from excel spreadsheet

I am sure we can help you, but first we need to see a sample of the data you
are dealing with. Could you copy some of the data and paste it into an
email so that we can identify the characters to define the column and line
breaks?

Subject: [ExcelVBA] Reconfiguring from excel spreadsheet

I may be in the wrong group. Maybe this can be done with Excel commands
only.

I download sometimes a decade's worth of quarterly financial info in
spreadsheet form. The amounts are fine but the quarterly labels (ie 2008/12)
are text. So the first challenge is to change the text into something excel
will recognize as dates. I think I can handle that. However, I need to
take the info that is all on one row and sort it by year and by quarter so
all March quarters in a column, all June quarters in another and so on.
That will let me determine seasonality in the numbers: for instance, if 80%
of 1st quarter growth in the last decade has been negative. That would be
the lull after a busy holiday season.

Might this be an easy task for a relative newcomer?

Thanks,
David
