I just began to use this program. Is there any way to get real time quotes using this RCH program?
Thanks - rwvivid

There's a template for it in the files area. Also, I've been told
RCHGetYahooQuotes() returns real time quotes if you're signed up for them on
Yahoo and logged in to your account.

It's just a matter of having an extractable data source.

Thanks for the response. I am presently using an RCHGetYahooQuotes(A2:A11,B1:M1)
array query which is working to provide 15 minute delayed quotes from Yahoo. I
do have real time quotes capability at Yahoo and I am signed on, but am still
only getting 15 minute delayed quotes instead of real time. I will look for the
template in the files area again although I have looked but not found it yet.
Please let me know if you have other ideas.
Thanks - rwvivid

You have to log in with the EXCEL Web Query dialog (preferred) or with IE,
because there needs to be an IE security cookie in place for EXCEL and the
add-in to pull the real time quotes. Logging in with something like FireFox
will not work.

Randy,
Thanks again for the prompt reply. The first thing I did was to login using IE
to see if that would work, but it didn't and I still only got 15 minute delayed
quotes. Then I worked for quite a while trying to get the EXCEL Web Entry to
work, but could not. It may be because I have a 2002 version of EXCEL and am
running System 7 Windows. Don't know what the problem was, but I could get to
the point of highlighting the items on the Yahoo page after using the New Web
Inquiry from Excel. I could mark the item on Yahoo but then it would never let
me switch back to Excel to hit the Import Data command. Thanks for your help.
Do you think that the older version of Excel is the problem?
Thanks - rwvivid

You don't actually need to DO a Web Query -- just log in using the Web Query
window. Once you are logged in, you can just cancel out of the dialog.
However, when you were in the Web Query dialog, were you seeing real time
quotes or delayed quotes?

Okay, thanks. I will try again tomorrow after market opens to see if I get real
time quotes. In answer to your question, during today when I was trying do the
Web Query, I believe that it had real time data. Tonight when I signed in with
Web Query, of course I could not tell whether it was real time or not since the
market was closed. I will verify again tomorrow.
Thanks = rwvivid

Sounds like you tried to extract the file into your "Temporary Internet
Files" folder.

Problem with sending file w/ RCH formulas to other people.

Hi,

Whenever I send a file to someone else that has RCH commands in it, it adds 'C:\Program Files\SMF Add-In\RCH_Stock_Market_Functions.xla'! to the formula and causes it to not work. They have to delete that from the formulas before they can update. Is there any way to get around this so that part doesn't get added to commands and other users don't have to delete it?

Thanks

No.

This is something Excel does (adding the path as hard code to the file name).

If both machines have the addin in EXACTLY the same path, the link is reconciled automatically.  Otherwise you have to do it manually.

As Martin says, the only way to avoid the issue is for the opener of the
file to have the add-in installed in the exact same location as the person
who saved the file. Then EXCEL will automatically resolve the links for you.
Otherwise, the links have to be manually resolved. See the related item in
the "Links" area of the group.

What Martin and Randy said was true. But, you don't have to send xls with the formulas in them at all.

You could just cut any cell that has an RCH formula and just paste it on top of itself - then select "paste only values and formatting". This preserves only the result of the RCH formula which means you don't need RCH to view the xls or modify it in other ways.

Of course, once the formula is removed the data is static.

I use this technique to keep historical snapshots of an xls or when sending it to other people who just need to view it.
