Yahoo quotes seem to be working for me this morning. --gh

Everything was working fine a few days ago and i have not changed the file. Problem occurs with older files that used to work and on different computers.

The add-in uses the same Internet engine as IE, so it uses IE's cookies and
Temporary Internet Files. If you have something that alerts you to changes
there, the add-in retrieval of web pages will trigger those alerts...

I'm assuming you don't use IE as a browser, or I'd think you should be
getting such alerts all the time.

No. I also use FireFox as my browser. I almost never use IE as a browser.

But you have to be aware that whatever alerts you put on IE activities might
be triggered when the add-in gets data -- BECAUSE it uses the same Internet
access function library as IE. IE settings apply to EXCEL and add-in
accesses to the Internet. Neither the EXCEL Web Query or the add-in will
care that you use FireFox as your default browser.
