Dear gurus, Randy and fellow members

Good day to you. Hope all are fine. I'm back here after a year or so !! :-)

1. Does the F wall street sp sheet still work ? that was done by Hamish and uploaded to the group's files section. since referencing to a particular file in the files section is not easy, I've uploaded a copy here bit.ly/1U5lbgC http://bit.ly/1U5lbgC
1.1. I get stuck at the guru focus part of this workbook ..that sheet does NOT work

2. IF a guru focus paid subscription is necessary for that sp sheet to work, what are the other / alternate sources of reasonably priced 10 year data ...say priced at or below $100 / year subscription

thanks in advance
best regards
Subu

Clearer version of question

Thanks to Randy and Hamish

1.1. I get stuck at the guru focus sheet of this workbook ..that sheet does NOT work for more than last 5 years. I logged into GF, yes they need a subscription for more than 5 years .. so _while_I_understand_the_issue, I do NOT know how to solve it :-( !!

1.2. However the morningstar portion works well... so I shall try to re build the top sheet with just Morningstar, but in the meanwhile IF there is a better / newer / working XL version please let me know

2. However, IF a guru focus paid subscription is necessary for that sp sheet to work, what are the other / alternate sources of reasonably priced 10 year data ...say priced at or below $100 / year subscription

3. I'm working from a win XP laptop. using MS office 2010

thanks again

No clue here. I don't use it.

That's one of the problems with using someone else's models. And I do NOT
want to be maintaining everyone else's uploads.

I don't keep track of what other people create and upload.

You might be able to use AdvFN as a data source. But I've seen so many data
issues with them, I no longer use them. It was one reason I subscribed to
GuruFocus.

Thanks Randy !

Yes I agree, you can't maintain other's sp sheets :-)

I have two follow up questions, if I may

1. Is there a ADVfn 10 year model somewhere that _you_ have created ? I wish to try your models

2. Also, you used to have a utility / function that downloaded the data to a local XL sheet (one time download) rather than accessing websites every time ... I wish to download what's there one time, rather than accessing sites often

thanks in adv for replies to these follow ups

Subu

AdvFN templates:

http://ogres-crypt.com/SMF/Templates/#AdvFN

Take a look at the smfUpdateDownloadTable templates:

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/smf_addin/files/Templates%20and%20Examples/smfUpdateDownloadTable/

That macro stores values. So you could then grab data from there using
EXCEL lookup functions. There are a number of write-ups related to this
macro on the "Tips and FAQs" web page.

Hello Randy, you answered my last question by saying i canuse the smfFixLinks macro. Where is this and how do I use it? I never heard of it or used it before.

Also note that I post this as a new question rather than as a reply to your response because for some reason my web browser (Firefox 44) is not allowing me to send a response (using Windows 7).

Thanks.

Just use the alt-F8 keyboard shortcut to bring up the macro dialog, and
type it in. It's in the add-in.

I have it assigned to a button on my toolbar.

I have Windows 8 and I wonder if Microsoft's cloud storage application
called One Drive is getting in the way. When bought a new Windows 8
computer, it was several months before I realized I was saving data to
the cloud and not to my local hard drive. In Windows 8 there is a
setting to turn one Drive off. I would bet the same exists in Windows
10.

See if you can navigate to a folder called "This PC" and then navigate
down to your C: drive. I would be surprised if Microsoft doesn't allow
the creation of a new folder there.

You might get a better response with a better subject. Say, something like:

"Windows 10 users -- how did you install the add-in?"

I can't answer you question because I haven't tried the add-in on Windows
10 yet.

Randy,

Again, thank you so much for all you do to keep the SMF working!

I would love help on two items when you have time. First, element #4674 (MS bear ranking) isn't working. This is probably because the quicktake report has changed. If you are working on that, no worries...I will wait. If not, I would love to know the direct url coding to the Morningstar "Rating & Risk" page, 5 year volatility measures so I can pull in the bear ranking number.

Second, I have used the following quicktake report to obtain the manager start date, but of course it has changed too.

=RCHGetTableCell("http://quicktake.morningstar.com/fundnet/printreport.aspx?symbol="&$A2,1,"manager start date")

The manager start date is located on the "quote" page and on the "management" page of Morningstar, but I can't seem to retrieve them using the url information above. When you have time would you let me know the coding so I can retrieve the information.

Thanks again for your help!

The problem is that MorningStar has removed the "printreport" pages. So
anything coming from that page will now return "Error" when the add-in
can't find the web page.

They have split the data up into so many different web pages and different
formats, I'm hesitant to do anything. One issue is that I don't do anything
myself with mutual funds, so I have no idea what people look at.

In any cases, I think the data you want is now on these web pages:

http://performance.morningstar.com/RatingRisk/fund/volatility-measurements.action?y=5&t=ARTKX
http://quotes.morningstar.com/fund/c-management?&t=ARTKX

Extractions would be:

=RCHGetTableCell("
http://performance.morningstar.com/RatingRisk/fund/volatility-measurements.action?y=5&t=ARTKX",5,"Percentile
Rank",">ARTKX")

=RCHGetTableCell("http://quotes.morningstar.com/fund/c-management?&t=ARTKX",2,"Start
Date","<tr","<tr")

And, as an example of a more difficult extraction, detailed management info
would have to come from JSON web pages, AFTER a different fund symbol is
found. For example, for ARTKX:

http://financials.morningstar.com/operation/c-managers.action?&t=FOUSA02VJ5
http://financials.morningstar.com/operation/c-advisorInfo.action?&t=FOUSA02VJ5

It's a tangled web they've woven to replace that simple print page. Oh,
joy! :(

Randy - or others,

I have used the work-around to log-into Investors.com just fine on my desktop (running Excel home and stucent 2013) and it never seems to log me out which is great. However, on my travel/backup computer - a Surface Pro 3 running Excel office 365 - when I use the workaround in the Get Web Data URL it sends me into an endless loop of "An error has occurred in the script on this page" and it never logs me in and I have to use the Task Manager to get out of the loop. Does anyone have any experience using Office 365 excel to access investors.com data? I have tried loggin in through Internet Explorer and the new Edge browser to no avail.

Any advice?

Thanks, Fred

Hi Randy

where are the most recent templates and sample files which users can use / test / share knowledge on ?

here in this yahoo group's file's area https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/smf_addin/files https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/smf_addin/files
or at http://ogres-crypt.com/SMF/ http://ogres-crypt.com/SMF/

I wish to concentrate on what's known to be working before trying my hand at older files

thanks
