Randy,

I tried to search the msg board but was unlikely.

Did these elements just go away? I have an EPS sheet I haven't opens in a few months but that portion is returning error.

I just updated all of those element definitions last month because of
changes Zacks made to the web page:

Hi Randy,

I hate to bother you, but I cannot seem to get anything from investors.com except "error". Your suggestion to upgrade Internet Explorer seemed to work just fine for a couple of days, now suddenly I cannot get any data back. What do you think?

I just tried it here and it's working fine for me, so the problem must be that you're not getting logged in with the version of IE that EXCEL is using for its IE object.

See this message thread on the Yahoo group for more info:

I assume you tried logging in again, and then ran smfForceRecalculation to
purge any saved copies of web pages?

If that's not working, I'm not sure what to tell you. IBD used to require a
daily login, and if I switched browser, I had to log in with EXCEL again
(each software that accesses their data would cause the other software
access to expire).

Someone on another thread mentioned IBD is having troubles with their
website. Your problems might be related to that. I don't use them
regularly, so I'm not up-to-date on issues with them.

Both of the templates seem to be working fine here...

Hi Randy, I am having the same problem. I use Windows 7 Professional with IE 10 and Excel 2013. When I try to log onto the website within Excel, I get into an endless script error loop and have to use task Manager to kill the program.

Have you tried the JSON method I posted? I have to use that because I have
an old version of Explorer that the IBD site won't allow me to use.

The other possibility is to make sure the version of the IE object used by
EXCEL matches the version of IE you use as a browser, so that they are
sharing the same cookies. However, I'm not sure how do to that, or how they
get out of sync...

Thanks Randy,

I signed out if investors.com, cleared temp files, signed on again, yet was still able to get anything but errors. It's probably on their end.

Hello

I have a finance group that I want to share some analysis work with. It is a club with a fairly large number of investors with varying levels of experience with Excel.

I am happy to make sure SMF AddIn gets credit and would even encourage the users to sign up as part of this group. A few are pretty technically savvy and could be excellent contributors here.

I have a few questions. First, is there any licensing issues I should be aware of or would anyone take offense at me doing this. Note - I am not selling anything or making a profit, but the group does gather dues to cover basic meeting expenses.

This is the more important question. Is there a way to distribute an excel spreadsheet with the SMF AddIn already loaded in it? Most members of the group could handle following directions and loading the add-in, but regrettably a large number of members just can't handle that complexity. I have done similar things in the past and it ended up being a mess where everyone wanted tech support from me to set up the spreadsheet. Multiply that times 50-60 needy members and I am just not willing to give up that chunk of my life.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. This will be done in Excel 2013 or if necessary I could drop back to Excel 2010, but most people do not have Excel 2016 yet.

Thanks for the help

I've created "stand-alone" workbooks that use one or more of the add-in
functions. I've called them "SMFLite" workbooks. Some examples are in the
files area of the Yahoo group:

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/smf_addin/files/Templates%20and%20Examples/SMFLite/

The RCHGetElementNumber() function should be avoided, since its element
definitions are external to the add-in. Another disadvantage is that if the
particular function that is localized needs updating, it would have to be
done manually for each "SMFLite" workbook that has been distributed. So the
examples may actually be out-of-date?

Most of the functions have been localized to their own modules, so it's not
that hard to create an SMFLIte workbook. But there are a few utility
modules here and there that might be needed. Definitely modUtilities, since
that contains the communications subroutines.

A few people have charged for distribution of workbooks. I don't have an
issue with that, as long as it's made clear the add-in is available for
free and that the charge is for the additional work put into the creation
of the workbook (e.g. a DCF model or whatnot) and not for the functionality
of the add-in itself. That is, you're selling a house and not the building
blocks and tools used to build the house.
