Do you have location errors? See the item in the LINKS area of the group.
If you did have location errors, EXCEL should have issued you a warning
about "missing links" when you opened the file.

You can try just running the smfFixLinks macro and see if that fixes the
problem.

I followed the procedure described here : http://seekingalpha.com/instablog/326478-derek-a-barrett/1414481-automating-alpha-getting-started-with-stock-market-functions-smf-add-in-for-excel

But when I use =RCHGetElementNumber("A2";878) or any other element I get Undefined

Typically, a result of "Undefined" for elements that should have
definitions mean that the smf-elements-*.txt files are not in the folder
that the XLA file is. Those TXT files contain all the element definitions.

Is that the folder where the EXCEL Add-in Manager says the add-in is
located? In the past, people have had the files in multiple locations. That
doesn't fix things. You need to put it into one folder, and tell the EXCEL
Add-in Manager that location.

If you open a file that was created with the add-in in a different
location, it will have a hard-coded link prefixing each function
invocation, and you need to fix those links in EXCEL.

What do you get with:

=RCHGetElementNumber("Version")

OK, so C:\Users\Yiannis\Desktop is where the add-in manager has been told
the add-in is located. That folder needs to have all of the
smf-elements-*.txt files. And you will definitely have to edit all links
any time you open up a workbook created by someone else. Because it's
highly unlikely anyone else will have the add-in in that location.

Create a folder, unzip the ZIP file into that folder, then tell the add-in
manager to use THAT location.

Good day,

I am trying to get fund risk ratios from google. By example for the FVVAX fund I try to the following to receive the Alpha ratio:

=RCHGetTableCell("https://www.google.com/finance?q="&M2;1;"Alpha*")

With M2 being the ticker offcourse. I always get a "Error".

Ps: using a belgian keyboard, so I use ; instead of , in my formulas.

Yahoo finance works well with other funds, but yahoo does not have information for FVVAX ratios.

Google doesn't have properly coded tables (no ending coding for each table
cell), so the RCHGetTableCell() function can't extract the data. The
smfGetTagContent() function is set up to work for missing ending table cell
tags, so you could extract with:

=smfConvertData(smfGetTagContent("https://www.google.com/finance?q=
"&E4,"td",1,">Alpha*"))

Great, thanks for the clarification.

Those are undocumented parameters that I originally added for my own use, so I could use the function in VBA. I didn't really want to document them because I didn't want people using them -- in case I wanted to add more parameters to the function. If so, I would want them in FRONT of those two parameters, which is a problem if people are using them in worksheet invocations.

The "pDim1" and "pDim2" parameters in any function that returns an array of data define the number of rows and columns of data that the function should return. In general, those dimensions are usually set when you array-enter those functions.

So, in this case, those parameters are telling RCHGetYahooHistory() to return 50 rows of data within a single column. It's the same result you would get if you array-entered the formula without those parameters, in a 50-row by 1-column worksheet range.

In the example you provided to compute the 50-day SMA:

=AVERAGE(RCHGetYahooHistory("FBIOX";,,,,,,,,"a",0,,,50,1))

the last 2 entries in the function are not described in the online documentation. Is there a newer version of the documentation for RCHGetYahooHistory or is this the normal way AVERAGE & RCHGetYahooHistory are combined? What is the significance of the '1" after the '50'?
