You're going to need to be a lot more specific about which data.

Check out some of the template in the files area.

Note that MorningStar has been changing some pages to dynamic display of the
data, which means those web pages will be unavailable for the add-in to
extract data from.

Unfortunately, Income Statement data is not available -- it's on one of
those pages they are now dynamically producing.

Templates are available for everything else.

I also have the same problem with Morningstar. I do know you can access their data into excel through MorningstarDirect BUT it requires $$$.

I use an alternate - I use AdvFn.com Data for the Financials since looking at their data sources they apparently get their information from Morningstar for the popular stocks at least. Just watch out for discrepancies.

If you do find a free workaround to morningstar I'd like to know as well.

Re: RCHGetYahooHistory, MA slope

Jose,

I buy when the slope of the MA is greater than .001, sell when it is less. The slope is calculated over the previous four weeks of the 42 week moving average. I came up with those values after a lot of testing with SPY using 15 years of data. I then tested about 50 other ETFs and found that most of the broad index based ETFs responded well to this technique. Individual stocks and narrowly focused ETFs don't work well with this.

I will try to post a sample of the summary page from my analysis spreadsheet in the files section to give you some ideas for your efforts.

Re: Use of smf_addins cause excel to hang (i.e. not respond)

Alexander & Randy -

In Excel, I changed the calculation setting to "manual". I can now load a file with smf_addins, but upon pressing F9 the file hangs.

I am unable to run a New Web Query from Excel. Using http://www.google.com/finance as the source address, the resulting message is "Website found. Waiting for reply...". At this point, the process is hung and nothing happens.

Yes, I suspect there was an update process for Explorer, but have no idea what would have changed.

How can I determine which version of hte XML Library is being used by the computer? I was able to locate an MSXML 4.0 file folder, but it is empty.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

That sounds like your problem right there. The add-in and the EXCEL Web
Query process use the same Microsoft Internet engine. That's why they share
the Internet Options settings, cookies, and Temporary Internet Files.

Is it possible you have a firewall that is preventing access? Maybe some
update to your security process affected something. I'm assuming IE itself
operates normally?

When in EXCEL, hit alt-F11 to get to the VBA editor. While viewing the
source code for the add-in, use the > Tools > References menu option. This
will bring up a list of libraries. Uncheck the "Microsoft XML 3.0" library
and then look for the 5.0 or 6.0 version of the library in the alphabetical
list later on.

However, I'm not sure if that will affect things. It sounds like you have
something more basic going wrong, since the EXCEL Web Query hangs as well.
Something is preventing EXCEL (and thus the add-in) from being able to
access the Internet. That's why I'm thinking some type of security software
or setting. But that's also just a guess.
