How to download data from Bloomberg website?

Posted by: "gz_cp" gz_cp@yahoo.com   gz_cp

The Bloomberg website does not publish data but they provide charts on a lot of tickers including market prices and economic indicators, after we put in a ticker for example IBM, or DXY:IND for the US Dollar.

Is it ever possible to extract data from the charts/flash charts (for a given ticker for example IBM, or GDP, CPI) from the Bloomberg website?

Thanks.

Not unless the underlying data is actually within the source code of the web
page, as barchart.com does it.

Populating a Large Array Using RCHGetYahooHistory

Would like to use the subject add-in to retrieve 10 years of historical month-end prices for nearly 100 stocks. Is there a way to enter the stock symbols and start dates across the top of my Excel spreadsheet and then copy the add-in so I don't have to enter it 100 times?

Thanks

Nope. Just copy the formula.

Thank you for your suggestion but I checked BarChart.com and couldn't find where they provide generic xth contracts.

The purpose of looking for this is to obtain the historical term structure data series of oil futures (meaning how steep the futures curve changes over time)

Do you know where we can download the historical term structure of oil futures?

Thank you very much.

I have no experience with futures...but they do have the different month
contracts on barchart.

Maybe this is what you're looking for? It's from Barron's, not CFTC.

This is the data but they only have the latest data rather than a historical time series, and they do not have many products like the data for treasury bonds and currencies...

Anyway thanks for your reply. Any other information will be appreciated.

Just as an update to help other people who are also looking for this data.

I looked at barchart and actually they also have embedded CFTC COT data in there futures charts too after we selected COT from the technical fields.

Trouble installing in Excel 2007

Folks,
Sorry to be that guy who posts for help on the first install, but I've hit the wall for what I can do myself. This looks like a fantastic tool to do custom data gathering.

I have followed the detailed instructions here:
http://www.traineetrader.com/importing-stock-quotes-to-excel-using-smf-add-in/

However when I go to type in any of the "RCH" functions I don't see them appearing the way the function list normally would. The little green Excel ball at the top has SMF as "checked" in the Add-ins menu. I've tried opening a new workbook, re-opening Excel, even re-booting Windows. It all shows up the same way - Add-ins shows SMF as enabled, but not of the functions are being loaded when I try to enter in a function. I've also tried fully typing out the function name, but I get an invalid function error from Excel.

Any help would be much appreciated. I'm happy to provide screenshots as well.

I'm running Windows 7 and Excel 2007.

The add-in functions don't show up on the auto-complete list.

But if you type in:

=RCHGetYahooQuotes(

...and then click on the "fx" button by the formula bar, it should give you
the "Function Arguments" dialog.

I can no longer find RCHGetWebData-Template-BarChart-Quotes-Extract.xls in the file section.

There are only a momentum file and a technical indicator file there.

Are these two actually newer versions of that one? I am also looking to get historical commodity prices going back a year or longer (is barchart the best source?).

Thanks.

There is no VBA in the workbook, so the OnTime VBA failure would have to
come from another workbook of yours.

I found it, it's the Bloomberg add-on that's making the error.

It's working now! Thank you so much for this fantastic product.

Btw, for the oil contract CLY00 I tried the price is 100* higher but it's a minor issue.

Any templates already made for hist data from http://stockcharts.com

Hi,

I am about to create a template to download the historical data from stockcharts (http://stockcharts.com/h-hd/?WMT). This doesn't require subscription.

Just wondering if there are already existing templates that can do this or I will be doing it from scratch.

Thanks.

Is there an smfPricesByDates equivalent for Barchart?

Posted by: "gz_cp" gz_cp@yahoo.com   gz_cp

Mon Aug 29, 2011 10:43 pm (PDT)

Yahoo doesn't support commodities and currencies. When I put CLV11.NYM into smfPricesByDates it returns NA.

The current Barchart template, while accepts commodity futures and currencies, can only take one ticker at a time and is not very easy to process a large number of tickers like the smfPricesByDates.

Is there an smfPricesByDates equivalent for Barchart?
(Or simply a =Function(Ticker, Date), without taking arrays, which is actually even more flexible)

If there is then it would be wonderful and pretty much solve all our problems! (Even there isn't, I still want to say THANK YOU for your fantastic add-ons)

Thanks.

I don't see myself doing a function specifically for barchart.com. Partially
because the format of the data being extracted can be different depending on
what is being retrieved (e.g. futures vs stocks) or displayed on the chart.

However, you can extract your own data by date with something like:

=0+smfWord(RCHGetWebData("
http://charts.barchart.com/chart.asp?sym=CLV11&data=A&den=HIGH&vol=Y",
"value='08/29/11 "),7," ")

...gives me the close for 08/29/11 for CLV11. However, I believe the
smfWord() function is only in the beta release of the add-in (in the "Works
in Progress" folder of the files area).
