I figured out the file I was using was referencing the old element file instead of the new 'cause i had 2 folders instead of one. Deleted the old and reinstalled the add-in. Everything great now. MSN works!

Thanks!

Randy - I just downloaded the new version of the add-in from the Files menu, but the smf-element-1.txt still has the old code referencing moneycentral.msn not the new investing.money.... code you mention below. Is there another place I should be downloading the updates from. Thanks

The updated smf-elements-1.txt file is newer than either ZIP release file.

If you have changed nothing and it doesn;t work then it's most likely your ISP's fault. I play Top Eleven on facebook and one day it stopped loading at home. I logged on using a different provider via USB modem and it was fine! I e-mailed the game provider who contacted my ISP and the ISP fixed it. They were blocking something.

Something I discovered is that ADVFN sometimes doesn't work with non-financials. The solution is to put the exchange in front. So instead of ACN, you put NYSE:ACN

Hope this helps.

Hello,

This email message is a notification to let you know that
a file has been uploaded to the Files area of the smf_addin
group.

File : /Templates and Examples/RCHGetWebData/RCHGetWebData-Template-BarChart-Quotes-Extract.xls
Uploaded by : rharmelink <rharmelink@gmail.com>
Description : An updated template to show how the RCHGetWebData() function can be used to extract in-page quotes from a BarChart.com chart page, which has the historical data coded within the page. Since the data is not in an HTML table, it needs to be extracted in a cascading fashion, one following another. The BarChart.com chart page allows time intervals from 5-minute periods through monthly periods.

I took another look at it and see the data is there now. I must have just missed it before. I've updated the template.

However, I had to drop volume. The values weren't reliable -- a lot of zero values.

It could be that they are in the midst of updating things, so it might be worth revisiting again in the near future.

That seems to work, but since I am actually looking for the Pivot levels of today and Barchart already distributes them it might be easier if I just pull them from Barchart.com. I can find the 4 of the pivots in the left column, with price to the right, under http://www.barchart.com/cheatsheet.php?sym=ESU12 (Pivot Point 2nd Level Resistance,Pivot Point 1st Level Resistance, Pivot Point 1st Level Support, Pivot Point 2nd Level Support). I can find the Pivot Point in the column to the right ( Pivot Point), with the price to the left. In other words, I would like to extract the numbers, 1369.17,1363.33,1356.42,1350.58 and 1343.17 for the ESU12 contract.

How can I exctract these? Furthermore, if someone could tell me how I find the source code for this I would be most thankful.

Regards,

You just need something like:

=RCHGetTableCell("http://www.barchart.com/cheatsheet.php?sym=ESU12",1,"Pivot
Point 1st Level Resistance")

Your browser should have an option that allows you to view the source code
of the web page...

Thanks Randy! Do you think you could provide an example of how to find the source? I'm not very proficient at this.

I noticed the same problem. On Friday, I was able to use =smfpricesbydates to get historical ^DJI prices, but couldn't get the current day. Today, I can't get any prices with that function. Is there a work around, a formula that pulls prices from google or some other financial website?

I have been able to get DOW historical prices from google, using a web query. The symbol that I had to use was INDEXDJX:DJI. Nothing works with yahoo, although you can still get prices for NASDAQ, using the symbol IXIC.

This may have been addressed but I am looking to capture the call or put
closing premium as of a specific date such as yesterday, Last Month's. Does
anyone have know an SMF function (code if possible) or a particular web site
that provides that information?

Also, I am curious, when I see 2 options on a site such as Yahoo for a
particular call I am unable to see what the difference is. Here is an
example

http://finance.yahoo.com/q/op?s=GOOG
<http://finance.yahoo.com/q/op?s=GOOG&m=2012-12> &m=2012-12

Why are there 2 entries for what seems to be the same company / expiration /
call put / strike price?

As you can see there are different premiums. I know this is a bit off the

If you click through on the first one, you'll see that it's invalid.
Probably a leftover from a bad update.

This is a fairly common problem with all options across all services. It is more of a "Wall Street" issue and not specific to Yahoo, MSN, etc. I don't remember why it happens exactly (there is a good explanation, I just quit worrying about it). However, once or twice each year it seems to affect quite a few options. It will go away for months, then start happening again.

Thank you for the information. If I could, the primary question seems to have been chopped off. I wanted to know if there was a way to get historcal premiums on a particular option. For example Jan 2013 GOOG Call 565.00. If I wanted to find out the closing premium as of last Friday or last month... If you have an SMF function which I wouldn't be surprised to see, I'd love to see an example. If there is a website that I shows it, I think I could probably manage the code by myself.

Thanks again for all you provide.

It is more of a "Wall Street" issue and not specific to Yahoo, MSN, etc. I don't remember why it happens exactly (there is a good explanation, I just quit worrying about it). However, once or twice each year it seems to affect quite a few options. It will go away for months, then start happening again.

OptionsXPress has historical option quotes for account holders. But
automating retrieval of them is not a trivial task as it does require a
manual step.

Randy, My primary reason for writing was cut off. Here it is:

This may have been addressed but I am looking to capture the premium for a particular Call or Put Option as of a specified date whether it is yesterday or Last Month's end and so on. Does anyone have know an SMF function (code if possible) or a particular web site that provides that information without charge?

Hi Randy:

Hopefully this will be an easy one.
I was utilizing the GetHTMLTable function to pull in a table of holdings by a manager. The challenge I face here is that on the website it will only show in blocks of 100 per page. So, my GetHTMLTablw will only bring in 1-100 of however many there are total.
Essentially, 2000 holding would = 20 pages.

My question is can I use some SMF function to auto download the excel file that is made available. They have a link that would allow to download all 2000 on a single sheet. My plan B would be to just bring in the excel file and open as a sheet.

Is that possible? Is there a function that would look to download the excel file.

I equate this similarly to my Ameritrade account. I can go look at my transaction history.. or I can download the excel output of it.

If they have an EXCEL file available, you don't even need the add-in. See:

hi, i just downloaded the add in and was wondering if someone can help me, please bare w me im a beginner..

in row 1, i have a list of 100 RANDOM historical dates, in chronological order, starting from B1 going right.

is there a way that i can type in a stock symbol in column a (starting with a2), then automatically import the historical closing prices for each corresponding date?

thanks,
tony

you can use the =smfpricesbydates("ticker",date) - you can link the cell with the ticker and dates into the formula.
