With FireFox, I just right -clicked on the area, chose the "This Frame"
option, and clicked on "Open Frame in New Tab". Then the URL is in the
address bar.

Other browsers should have similar options.

I can understand that; however, I can't find very much documentation on
how to use it and I may have to store my downloaded data in a text file
or database in order that the function can calculate the indicator
values. Does your addin have a function to store quote data into a
storage file as it gets downloaded?

Storing quotes is something you'd have to write your own VBA routine for.

For TA-Lib, just use the function wizard when you use the function -- it
tells you what each parameter needs to be.

I use Virtualbox excessively, mainly to supplement as an isolated
operating system (OS) to protect my main OS from viruses or any system
corrupting influence. I use to use Sandboxie to do this, but with
Virtualbox I can create templates for specific purposes (i.e. Graphic
Design, Trading, Programming) and I can clone them as a backup in the
case they get corrupted.

There is a Virtualbox for each of the common operating system that is
free.

I doubt it.  With both VirtualBox and Prallels, you have to have Windows.

I have been running a number of Windows-only programs on my Mac for years, including a macro suite for Excel that imports historic and real time stock data. I use Fusion software by VM Ware to create a virtual PC on my Mac, which will run any version of Windows software (I am still using XP) and most Windows software. My Windows programs (Microsoft Office mainly) actually run faster on my MacBook Pro than on my Windows PC. I haven't yet tried this particular addin however, but will be doing that very soon.

In using the RCHGetYahooQuotes() function, can I use a "range name"
instead of the range cells? Most of time, I perfer to give a name to
the ranges that I use.

Sure. Usage of the user-defined functions is almost the same as a native
EXCEL function.

Sorry, this will be the last question I swear. I set the add-in as a reference library and that's working great. However whenever I try to use the smfGetEconData it isn't working. For example, I have

Data = smfGetEconData("GDP", DATE(2012,12,12)). The problem I'm having is Date being a VBA function it errors out. Now I tried doing something like GDPDate = "DATE(2012,12,12)" but that doesn't work whether GDP is declared as a variant or string.

Thank you for you help. I just got out of the Peace Corps a couple months ago so this is the first time I'm going back to your program/VBA in 3 years.

thanks!

Justin

That's because DATE() is a different function in VBA than in EXCEL. In VBA,
there are no parameters for the function, it just returns the current date.
In VBA, you want:

DateSerial(2012, 12, 12)

...because EXCEL uses serial dates.

So, try:

Data = smfGetEconData("GDP", DateSerial(2012, 12, 12))

However, that will return a 3 by 1 array (value, date, description). If you
want JUST the value, it would be:

Data = smfGetEconData("GDP", DateSerial(2012, 12, 12))(1)

However, also note that the file's latest GDP value is actually from July
1st of this year:

=smfGetEconData("GDP", "Date Range")

Wow, that worked perfectly! Yeah I did see that the last gdp was from July but I'm setting this up so that each time I open the spreadsheet it updates values in the spreadsheet if need be and I see that even if you reference a date that isn't in the data yet, a newer date, it still gives me the most recent available data which is cool.

Thanks! I'll upload this after I'm done with if it, if it is of interest to people. I found data on another site going back to the late 1700s. So I'm just creating an economic snapshot of now and a historical snapshot of 6 or 7 different years throughout our history. Users can can change the the years and the data for those years will be imported or someone can expand the range if need be.

Anyway, thanks again! I really appreciate your help. I'm really glad to see how this much everything here has progressed since I was gone.

I downloaded MS Office 2013 trial version on my one computer running Windows 8 and the problem went away on one computer.

The other computer running Windows 7 and MS Office 2010 still has the problem.
