You should exit EXCEL before replacing the files. EXCEL loads add-ins at
start-up time, so updating the XLA file won't change anything until the
next time you start up EXCEL.

Yup. Those are the correct element definitions. So try your original
functions again. Hopefully, all will be well. :)

Yes, the functions are working as expected. I want to look at some price to free cash flow. I am thinking Mkt Cap/levered cash flow using elements 941/971. Can you put functions in with the get elements code or do you have to do two get element cells and then divide in a third cell?

You could do it this way:

=RCHGetElementNumber("MMM";,941) / RCHGetElementNumber("MMM",971)

...or even:

=RCHGetElementNumber(B4,941)/RCHGetElementNumber(B4,971)

...where the ticker symbol is in cell B4.

Cool! I like the last one as I can use autofill to do a list of symbols.

This group and software was a great find! It was too bad I downloaded it from a web site selling their software that "works great" with your software only they never updated your software link. Oh well, I am in the right place now. Thanks for everything!!

Hi all,

It has been a few years since I used SMF and want to update my sheets and tools, unfortunately a lot has changed in the years and none of my old stuff works :(

So I need to start with a few questions

Is there a good source of data for historical 10 years of the following elements:
Revenue
Tangible book value
EPS
Free cash flow
Dividends per share
Debt to capital
Free cash flow payout
Annual share price high
Annual share price low

I would need the data by year for the past 10 years
Are those data elements readily available via the element definitions?

I think everything except high and low stock price would be available as
elements. Preferably from the same data source.

Take a look at some of the AdvFN elements. I think you'll find those items.

For high and low stock price, you'll probably need to retrieve the
historical quotes first, then derive it from that.

Also, you may want to take a look at the MorningStar item in the LINKS area
of the group.

This might actually end up being an Excel question, I realize, but is there a way to create an array of daily stock returns from Yahoo data?

I know how to get the daily close info from RCHGetYahooHistory, but is there then a way to transform that into daily returns while keeping the data in an array (ie - not having to use more than one cell in excel since I would then like to perform calculations on the array as a whole ... STDEV, etc)?

As things are right now, I think the only way would be to write your own
function to do that.

Hmmm. Depending on the details of what you need, you might be able to do
something like:

=STDEV(smfTech(RCHGetYahooHistory("MMM",,,,,,,,,,1,1,20,6),"ROC",1))

Every little bit helps and you know how helpless we users are.

Thanks, I like the instructions as it helps refresh what the spreadsheet is trying to accomplish.

Everything was shifted down because I added the text box at the top of the window. Not full out instructions you (?) requested, but at least an overview of some type...

This time I got the same results as you error in C32 thru C34

That was my only problem as far as I tested.

Sorry, next time I'll download a fresh copy before I post.

Hi Randy,
You are right but how to grab this info in MS_Excel?
Sincerely,
