Hello everyone !

I suddenly get the formula below where I used the add-in

='C:\Program Files\SMF
Add-in\RCH_Stock_Market_Functions.xla'!RCHGetYahooQuotes(B10;"j1")

What can I do???

See the "Location errors" entry in the LINKS area of the group.

I usually just run the smfFixLinks macro to remove them.

That's great Randy - thanks a lot. Like dcharlotte99 I am very happy to have SMF working with AdvFn working again (if only temporarily).

Just a note to other readers that AdvFn posts a notice that the most recent quarterly financials are not updating correctly and to use their beta site for that. See this page for an example warning:
http://www.advfn.com/exchanges/NYSE/MCD/financials?btn=quarterly_reports&mode=company_data

The one data error I saw on their most recent quarterly is the quarter indicator is "Q" when it is supposed to be 1,2,3, or 4. This threw off my spreadsheets that derive a TTM figure from the most recent quarterlies so it was quite obvious something was amiss.

Thanks Randy.

Thank you Randy!!! This is critical to my personal, and more importantly, professional work. Thanks for getting ADVFN back on track. I really appreciate it.

I just uploaded beta version 2.1.2013.10.16 of the add-in to the "Works in Progress" folder of the FILES area of the group.

I made changes to the smfGetAdvFNElement() routine that should allow data to be retrieved, using their new URL scheme. That means RCHGetElementNumber() functions for AdvFN elements should also work.

It appears to work for both general templates in the FILES area.

However, I can only test changes using their "www" prefix. I don't know if other regional prefixes will work or not. Or whether you even NEED to use other regional prefixes any more.

And, of course, when they do go their new beta format, all bets are off until THAT gets stabilized.

Thanks Randy for working on updating this. There are a lot of people that prefer to use the AdvFN data.

Just as an FYI, I can only get this beta version to work for companies listed on the NYSE. Companies listed on the NASDAQ all return errors.

same issue here. NYSE stocks work with ADVFN, other exchanges do not.

Also, the MSN site for stock price ("Last price" in the element definitions sheet #25) returns "Obsolete"; now. my formula looks like this: =RCHGetElementNumber(Q1,25), where Q1 points to a ticker.

Thoughts? Help?

Ahhh. I'm an idiot. New update:

RCH_Stock_Market_Functions-2.1.2013.10.17.zip

I had hard-coded "MMM" as the ticker symbol when looking up the stock
exchange (needed for the URL), so anything outside of NYSE wouldn't work.
Now fixed.

My apologies.

BTW, I tried a few AMEX companies and noted that AdvFN had *no* financials
for them.

I obsoleted element #25. Ever since MSN did their redesign of the print
page last year, they've been posting the previous day's closing price as
"Last Price". You should use RCHGetYahooQuotes() for current quotes.

Thanks Randy. Unfortunately it appears to work for NYSE listings and not NASDAQ. Any ideas?

Mark

Hi,

I'm trying to use the spreadsheet but for some reason, cells G24, G26-28, G30-31 and K5 only show "Error". The cell K14 (and K24 as a result) shows "#VALUE!", but is that due to a different decimal separator?

Thanks!

BTW, since this sheet does NOT use 10-year financial data, it works just fine without having to login to Morningstar, i.e., there is no requirement for a Morningstar subscription.

I have uploaded a fresh copy of Altman_Piotroski.xlsx to the files area.

I chose to use Morningstar as the data source via the smfGetCSVFile function. While I attempted to duplicate the previous version of this workbook, I don't completely trust the Z-Scores, but then I never really used them; I created the sheet in the first place largely for the Piotroski numbers, since I felt that the sites which provide them give scores which are generally too high.

Please note that the metrics Morningstar generates move around, i.e., one cannot trust that a particular metric will be in a specific row in an array. I overcame that (I think) with the additional cells at the top of the 'MStar' tab. These cells search the arrays for the metrics desired.

Those cells all contain information coming from AdvFN. You'll get errors on
those unless you are using the new beta version of the add-in from the
"Works in Progress" folder from the FILES area of the group. That's because
AdvFN is messing around with the their URL structure.

Hi All,

I have the S&P500 stocks in the columns and dates in the rows. I would like to capture the close price for each stock for each day. I was looking through the RCHGetElementNumber Element Definition xls list, but did not see anything about close price.

Can anyone give me some code ideas on how to efficiently do this? Typically I would only need to collect 1 week of close prices for 500 securities.

Cheers

You would need to use the RCHGetYahooHistory() function to get closing
prices for the last week.

However, that is going to be a slow data retrieval, because you'll need to
access the Internet 500 times.
