Thank you for the quick reply.

Do you suggest any way to retrieve share price?

I tried to use RCHGetElementNumber("Ticker", 25) with no luck.

The first ticker worked, but all subsequent tickers showed "error" as its value.

Thanks again,
LY

Unfortunately, I don't think Yahoo is gets ECN data any more. So I'm not sure how accurate or reliable the ECN data codes are..?

But it looks like they are putting HTML tags for a web page display of the data, instead of returning raw data. Note that "k1" is supposed to return time and last price, so the "N/A" is probably the time they put in when the market is closed.

I tried the workaround you posted in the links section for AdvFN - still getting error message. Should I use an earlier version of the add-in? Or is there an easier site to get 10 yr financials from?

Thanks again,

C

Do you need a prefix other than "www"? I don't know if those work with the new code.

First of all, many thanks for all your work and for making this available. I'm new so apologies in advance, but I'm getting errors on the AdvFN elements. All other data elements seem to work fine for me. I'm using the 10.17 version.

An earlier version of the add-in won't help with AdvFN. They've since
changed their URL structure.

Easiest is probably the CSV file from MorningStar. Check the LINKS area of
the group for more information.

Hello Randy,

I've been trying out a lot of the balance sheet/income statement/cashflow related elements, and resulting in "error" messages.

Wondering if this is common or it's something with my computer/software.

LY

Since you didn't provide details, I'll have to take a guess about what the
problem might be...

If they are AdvFN elements, you need the beta version of the add-in from
the "Works in Progress" folder from the FILES area of the group to access
them. Over the past few months, AdvFN has been messing around with their
website, so changes to the add-in were necessary.

Unfortunately, website changes are not an uncommon problem. MSN seems to
like to do it once a year.

Thank you for the reply.

Is there anyway for me to help keep the elements up to date?

Or is it more of an reactive thing whenever one of the websites make changes.

LY

I usually post new element definitions to the "Works in Progress" folder
when I make them -- they are the smf-elements-*.txt files. However, this
last change for AdvFN also required a coding change to the add-in itself,
which is why a new version was posted to the "Works in Progress" folder.

But it's definitely a reactive progress. None of the data providers have me
in on their prospective changes. :)

I usually find out when someone tells me that something isn't working any
more. Because I personally only use a small subset of what the add-in can
do.

And, actually, the vast majority of element definitions are just saved
versions of an RCHGetTableCell() function. So you could even do the
extractions yourself, independent of the element definitions.

They probably calculate them on the fly, since you can specify any period you want for the moving averages. Just because they calculate them there doesn't mean they would provide them on the CSV file feed, or state the average on any of their web pages.

You could always calculate it yourself from their historical quotes, but it would be a slow process if you need it for a number of funds. For example:

=AVERAGE(RCHGetYahooHistory("FBIOX";,,,,,,,,"a",0,,,50,1))

By the way, this would give you a different answer for stocks and ETFs than what Yahoo provides. Because, for some reason, Yahoo's 50-day (and 200-day) moving average values are based on the number of calendar days instead of trading days.

When I go to Yahoo! Finance and pull up FBIOX, then go to 'Charts > Interactive' I can display the price of this fund over any period I choose, and also (under Technical Indicators) the SMA over any period I choose. So Yahoo most certainly computes the 50-day moving average. The question then, is where does it store this info.

Hi everybody,
is there a possibility to get not only the price history but also the history of Earnings or Price/Earnings-Ratios with the help of RCHGetYahooHistory() ?
If not, is there any other possibility to get the history of these numbers beside the history of stock prices in an Excel-Sheet?
Would be great to get some information on these question!

Best wishes,
Kai

Not with RCHGetYahooHistory(). That isn't something Yahoo provides.

The best source is AdvFN. However, they've recently been updating their
website, so you'll need the beta version of the add-in from the "Works in
Progress" folder to access the elements defined for their site.

Or you could access them directly:

http://www.advfn.com/exchanges/NYSE/MMM/financials?btn=quarterly_reports&mode=company_data

Someone recently noted that Zacks has a page on earnings as well:

http://www.zacks.com/stock/research/IBM/earnings-announcements

When I open the10 Year Model - ADVFN-New Format template in the User Submitted templates section of the forum and try to enable data and link connections I get an error message that says "This workbook contains one or more links that cannot be updated." When I go to edit links the source RCH_Stock_Functions.xla has a status that is "unknown."

How do I get get a connection that will update the worksheet?

See the "Location Errors" item in the LINKS area of the group.

Hello Randy,

Searched through the conversations and couldn't find the answer.

all the data was working fine until I closed Excel2010 and reopened it.

The cells for RCHGetYahooQuotes still works but all the other cells using RCHGetElementNumber are returning "error".

I was so happy while it was working....

Liyang

Give me some examples. Otherwise, I have nothing to look at. But your
symptoms certainly sound strange.

The first 5 columns are hard coded so no problem there, 6th column is =RCHGetElementNumber(A3,941) and it worked for the entire column before closing and now it shows all errors. the "P/E" column still works though, and it is using =RCHGetYahooQuotes(A3,"r",,"NOW()")

LY
