Randy,

I am trying to get 10 quarters of financials from Morningstar using your smfGetCSVFIle function. When I set the period to 3 for quarterly, I can only get the latest 5 quarters even though I have set the "columns" to 10. Changing this column number seems to have no effect on the output.

Thanks

Ken

10 periods are only available if you're a member and have created the
necessary IE security cookie, by logging in with either the EXCEL Web Query
dialog (preferred) or with IE.

Otherwise, the non-member default is 5 periods.

Hi Randy,

Sorry for asking question via email. I tried posting new topic but errors pop up:
1. "Sorry, an error occurred while loading the content.
2. "Could not send the message".

Just a quick one. I would like to download data from this website:
http://data.stats.gov.cn/workspace/index?m=hgyd

However, no matter how i change my data selections, the url remains the same. How may I find the true url behind, so that I can use smf to download different data by altering the url?

Thank you so much for your help.

Cheers,
Laurent

Some web pages, especially ASP, don't have "bookmarkable" URLs. At least
not in a way I know about, because I'm not familiar with ASP web page
coding and techniques.

However, I can use my "Web Developer" add-on for FireFox, to change HTML
forms from "Puts" to "Gets", which sometimes will reveal a "bookmarkable"
URL.

When you then *use* the form, the URL and its parameters should be revealed
in the address bar as you go to the requested page.

However, it doesn't always work. I would say about 50-70% of the time. Some
requests MUST be "Puts", so changing them the a "Get" doesn't work. And it
won't help on ASP pages.

Thanks. You said it works 50-70% time. Does it work for this website?
http://data.stats.gov.cn/workspace/index?m=hgyd

I tried to "use" it after converting it from posts to gets, but the address bar remains unchanged.

Thanks a lot.

I have no idea. I don't know what to do with the page.

Sounds like it doesn't though.

I wonder if URL Snooper would help:
http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/urlsnooper/

I use this to archive daily market videos but it shows all URLs that
pass through your network card.

Here are a few lines from that Chinese date site:

Hi,

I have just installed the add-in version RCH_Stock_Market_Functions-2.1.2012.12.29 and loaded the test file. The formula result is an error no matter which ticker symbol I use. I'm running Excel 2010 in Windows7. I have the sneaking suspicion that there's a setting somewhere blocking the formula from working. I have VBA enabled for Office. The macro setting in Excel is the default of asking me before running a macro (though I did set it to run all as a test and that didn't work). Any other basics that I haven't covered that might be my problem?

I have no idea what SMFAddinTest.xls is. There is no "test file"
distributed with the add-in.

The macro setting is irrelevant for add-ins.

You may get errors with some RCHGetElementNumber() elements with version
2.1.2012.12.29 files, because a lot of element definitions have changed
since then, because websites have changed their web pages. Updates for the
smf-element-*.txt files can be found in the "Works in Progress" folder.

Sorry if the test file was a red herring.

With the updated txt files, I got some results, so the add-in is
functional. It just seems to be the MSN-related elements that return
errors.

Thank you.

Rebooting help! Not sure why, but it did...
I also fixed to pull L3.

If we can make it hard, we seem to do that at times!

As always, THANK YOU for taking time to look at my questions.
I appreciate it.
