Fixed it. Apologies for that, I'm just crushed with work right now and didn't get time to check it all properly. THanks for the help, please flag anything else you find

The GuruFocus 10 Year Model is missing "Accounts Receivable" from the balance sheet's current assets section.

As for ROIC, I put the calculation back in but on the variations with ADVfn, I don't know how to tell you. It's one of those metrics where people play around a bit at the fringes. Do you use average capital from previous year and this? Include leases? Perhaps there are liabilities that GuruFocus doesn't capture?
I have used EBIT/(Equity + Debt), but feel free to suggest a modification. My personal experience has been as long as you're consistent in how you calculate it, it will give useful information on a relative basis. Sorry I can't help more.

Thanks for the updated GuruFocus 10 Year Model!
I noticed that some of the data didn't populate because of extra spaces added to the names of various line items.

For example: "Cash And Cash Equivalents" now has two spaces before the name. After I added the two spaces before the name in the excel sheet, it worked.

Same thing can be done to fix other line item names.

I do have a question about ROCI (Return on Captial Invested). On your old GuruFocus spreadsheet, this ROCI item was calculated. I tried to calculate it the same way with the new spreadsheet, but the figure is coming up incorrect.

For example, the ROCI for Exxon (XOM) for the year 2003 calculates to 63.90%.
But in reality, it should be closer to 22.10% (according to the ADVFN website).

I calculated the ROCI from your GuruFocus spreadsheet by using the following formula:
"Operating Income" divided by "Invested Capital"

It appears that my "Invested Capital" amount is coming up incorrect.
My "Invested Capital" calculates to 88,834 for the year 2003.
But from the ADVFN website, it should be 94,671.

Any help in solving this would be greatly appreciated since ROCI is a great analysis item.

I found out about the issues with the model. GuruFocus added a lot of new 10 year data - especially in the Balance Sheet and Cash Flow sections, and changed a lot of the names of the various line items. As a result the old model stopped working.

I've uploaded a new version. It's a quick-n-dirty piece of work, and seems to work fine, but I have not had the time to check it thoroughly, so any feedback would be appreciated and I'll fix it as best I can.

Hi Randy,

Thank you for your help. Right after I read your reply I figured it out that possible due to Finnish keyboard settings, I should replace comma with semicolon (;). After that all seem to be working great.

Thanks once again.

Best regards: Tommy Holmberg

I cut and pasted your formula and it works fine here. Where did EXCEL point when it gave you the error? Do you normally use something other than a comma as a function delimiter?

PS: You need to send add-in questions to the Yahoo group. I have email filters that direct them to a folder. I found this message in my SPAM folder, which means it could easily have been deleted without me ever seeing it.

Hi Randy,

I'm pretty new with these kind of tool and it might be the reason that I can't get this tool working.

- I have created SMF directory and copied all the necessary files there
- I have added "RCH_Stock_Market_Functions" to Excel's add-in and have made macros are enabled

In my table, ticker is located at A2 (following your instructions) and formula is at B2. When I input " =RCHGetElementNumber(A2, 63) I receive an error "The formula you typed contains an error". What could cause the reason???

I have already tried the latest SMF files that are in work status but it didn't help.

Hopefully you could help me this as it would be great benefit to have this table working.

Best regards: Tommy Holmberg

Is there a way to stop excel from retrieving the data every time I move out of a cell? It makes working on a spreadsheet impossible because it takes 30 seconds to re-pull all the data every time I press Enter. In other words, is there a way to make Excel NOT update unless we press F9. (like with the NOW() function). Right now I have to release my IP address while I work on the spreadsheet and then renew my IP address when I am ready to pull the data...

Take out the NOW() parameters, and use the smfForceRecalculation macro to
do your refreshes instead. See the LINKS area of the group for more
information on the macro.

I have it assigned to a QAT button so it's easily accessible.

The whole point of adding NOW() is so that it WILL refresh with the F9
recalculation. It makes all of the function invocations volatile.

I'm interested in this as well and I've tried figuring it out but the problem I run into is that every company has a different number of quarters.

Wondering if anyone has a quarterly version of the User Uploaded file:

The yearly data file works great, but I was hoping there is a quarterly version too. I tried making modifications to the RCHGETHTMLTABLE but had no success. Just the last 10 or 15 quarters will do.

Calling bikeflagaz...

Thanks

Hi Randy,

I am having problems with certain sections of the RCHGet Elements. To help troubleshoot I made a spreadsheet with the elements and the values that it pulls. I start to get Errors with source=ETFOutookHL (element 994) and I also have problems with source=earnings (element 1286), morningstarTR (element 4661), YahooPM (element 4930), AdvFN-A (element 5196) etc. Do I need to open up Morningstar, AdvFN, etc before start using my spreadsheets, or it there something else going on that you know of.

I appreciate your guidance.

Scott

Issues:

1. ETF Outlook elements only apply to ETFs.

2. The earnings.com web site no longer exists, so all of those elements
are obsolete. For a while, the data was showing up on another web site, but
it appears to be gone now too.

3. MorningstarTR and YahoooPM elements only apply to mutual funds,
although may work for some ETFs.

4. AdvFN has been an issue for the past few months because of changes
they've been making. For a while there, even their web pages weren't
working properly. There is a beta version of the add-in in the "Works in
Progress" folder, with coding changes to account for the AdvFN changes.
They work for me, and others, although a few people have noted they still
have issues.

Note that AdvFN may change again in the near future. They've been
promoting a completely new format. I'm not sure how the new web page design
will fit into the old set of defined elements. I've run into this before,
and it can be a nightmare. Some line items disappear, some new ones pop up,
and some get renamed in ways that make it questionable whether they even
mean the same thing.

5.

And, yes, you do need to visit the MorningStar site before using
elements from their website. They have a redirection that occurs on your
first visit of the day, which they sometimes use to display advertising.
Until a script in the HTML page runs to update the cookie to indicate that
first visit has been done, the add-in will continue to error out because of
their redirection (because the process I use only retrieves source code, it
doesn't execute script code). A lot of Morningstar elements are no longer
available, because they've been converting their web pages to a dynamic
display of data. I'm considering a work-around -- see:

http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/smf_addin/conversations/messages/22956

Some of the new elements have been defined. See the
SMF-Template-Morningstar-Stock-Data.xls in the "Works in Progress" folder.
But I have a long list of possible updates, and it's really not a top
priority of mine because I have seen MorningStar making additional changes
to those pages.

There's always the option of using other functions to get the data. In
fact, that's how I currently define elements.

It's a constantly changing world. Sometime for the good, sometimes for the
bad.
