Don't think this spreadsheet is current. BRK-B is not on the list, but is currently in the S&P 500.

Near as I can tell, this Wikipedia list is correct as of today:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_S&P_500_companies

Just copy the table from the web page and paste into a spreadsheet.

Do I need to purchase the Microsoft Office to use smf addin? I thought maybe because I'm not "manipulating" the information, I could get by with just the "read only" mode. But, I'm pretty sure I will need to purchase to the package (around $110.00 or so).

I have an older computer (2007) with Excel but have used my "trial" period and not sure what options to consider.

Any thoughts? Thx.

You can find the documentation in the "Files" area of the group, in the
"Documentation" folder. The add-in has all of the functions in it.

Do a search of the group's messages. It's been discussed several times in
the past.

Hi Randy. Thank you for your answer, I have already done that. I've spent several hours following the instructions and examples in the messages. I have successfully been able to extract data from other sources, like Stock Scouter rating Summary from MSN,using smfGetTagContent. I will post that file here, in case someone finds it useful. However I haven't been able to use it to extract data from the Yahoo Profile page, that's why I am asking for help.

When I search the archives for "Business Summary", the message immediately
prior to yours in the search has a working solution. See:

Hi All,
I am trying to get data from different sources but getting only from MSN

I am trying to do the data pull for all 500 s&P companies together.
Is anyone else facing similar issue..
Thanks,

You may have to adjust your Internet Options to get AdvFN data -- see the
item in the "Links" area of the group.

Also, the add-in has a built in limit of retrieving 1000 web pages per
session. It's not intended for building databases.

I see it has a macro involved. What does the macro do that the add-in can't
do?

There are several technical analysis templates that may have what you need.

Otherwise, you could always get something like TA-Lib (see "Links" area of
group for more info) and generate your own.
