just curious.........

will you be sitting in front of the computer waiting for the update EVERY TWO MINUTES?

Or will you occasionally glance at your computer during the day and want the prices to be no more than 2 minutes old?  (In which case it seems like smfforcerecalc is the way to go)

Have downloaded current stock prices but would now like to have the workbook automatically update the stock prices every 2 minutes throughout the day. Don't want to have to keep hitting ForceRecalc every 2 minutes in order to see how the prices are performing. Is there a VBA routine or some other method that can activate a periodic refresh function for prices?

Have a routine that when the my stock indicators hit a certain level, it will automatically email my broker with the name and price so he can make the trade.  That is why it needs to be a frequent real-time update.

If the Excel is Open, it will refresh every 2 mins. So whenever you look at
the quote, it will not be more than 2 mins old.
If you keep glancing, you will see a change in 2 mins.. :) if that is the
refresh frequency set..

The download file you kindly provided was for MSN Money which I assume updates every 2 minutes - is that correct?

You can right click on the result selection and then right Click and select
"Data Range Properties" and set the refresh rates/time.
To make the selection, you will have to do the cell selection on the Top
Left (next to Fx button).

SMF Addin and RCH

If I subscribe to streaming real time stock price data from Yahoo Finance, will RCHGetYahooHistory and RCHGetYahooQuotes, still work and automatically update and reflect the real time values?

Thanks

Nothing "automatically" updates.

But I believe RCHGetYahooQuotes() will get real-time quotes, as long as
you've created the proper IE security cookie by logging in with either the
EXCEL Web Query process, or with IE itself. But you shouldn't see any
difference on RCHGetYahooHistory().

I have ibstalled the latest add-in in the correct directory and have the add-in checked in the Excel options add-in box, however the add-in does not show on the ribbon add-in tab, My other add-in's do show up. Shouldn't the smf_Addn be there??

Nope. Nothing concerning the SMF add-in should show up on the ribbon --
it's mostly user-defined functions.

As long as it shows up on the add-in manager, you should be OK. The
quickest way to check if you have it installed is to check the version:

=RCHGetElementNumber("Version")

Why not just use the smfGetOptionQuotes() function?

In any case, this would get your desired bid price:

=RCHGetTableCell("http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=AGQ120421C00054000",1,">Bid")

This would retrieve the same price:

=smfGetOptionQuotes("AGQ Apr 2012 54.000 Call","b")

like to do, but can't figure out how to, is automate the retrieval of the
"Bid: $xxx" field from that Yahoo Finance option page. I've done a lot of
trial and error (all error, so far). ;-)

Can someone lend me a hand?

Randy,

Sorry for the bandwidth. I thought I had this nailed because your examples worked and I was able to take advantage of several of the documented parameters. But now I am having the problem that plagued me earlier and was part of the reason for my post. When I use the "=RCH" functions, they work as expected. Using the "=smf" functions, the only response I get is "#NAME". I didn't do anything between my two sessions on Excel today, so I am at a loss to understand what is happening. Have you seen this behavior before?

Thanks,

Bob

Other than the mention of the two sessions, I would have thought it was
that you're using an older version of the add-in. What do you get with:

=RCHGetElementNumber("Version")

Those elements were obsoleted earlier this year, because of web page
