Randy, I tried to change the formula to change MMM to ticker which I had named cell A1.
I tried several different but it always retrieved the URL for MMM not whatever symbol I put in A!.

I, also, tried this where symbols were in column A .
IT produced this URL page to retrieve http://quotes.morningstar.com/stock/c-header? <http://quotes.morningstar.com/stock/c-header?&t=ticker> &t=ticker
And http://quotes.morningstar.com/stock/c-company-profile?t=kermit
Ticker was defined as cell A2 and kermit was A3

What am I doing wrong? I know this is not using the SMFaddin. Just excel

Subject: Re: [smf_addin] Morningstar data

Not a simple answer, since MorningStar uses dozens of "static" web pages to build their dynamic web pages. The best way to find them is to use some type of URL sniffer and see what web resources are used when a web page is built. I use the HTTPFox extension with the FoxFire browser.

I did manage to find a "cheat sheet" I have saved, but I'm not sure how current or complete it is:

It open the browser but showed a blank page because the ticker never resolved to cell A2 content

You have to replace the t=xxx with a parameter, eg, t=["ticker"], then Excel will ask for input, or you can supply a cell.Explained here:http://web.archive.org/web/20130914030240/http://dancingpenguinsoflight.com/2010/07/excel-web-query-urls-with-dynamic-parameters/And here:http://www.jkp-ads.com/articles/webquery.asp

Think of it this way -- you're concatenating two string values:

Ticker

So you'd just put the ampersand in between them:

="http://quotes.morningstar.com/stock/c-header?&t=" & Ticker
