Hi -

I have the 2017.09.17 version of SMFaddins installed, but I've seen this problem with earlier versions as well.

Sometimes, especially late at night, but sometimes during the trading day as well, when I try to retrieve quotes from the various providers (Yahoo, MSN, MarketWatch) I get an error for certain tickers. If I refresh my spreadsheet, several different things can happen.

1) No change occurs
2) The errant quotes show up but DIFFERENT tickers display an error
3) ALL tickers display an error
4) All tickers display valid data (the desired and expected result)

Has anyone seen this sort of behavior, and if so, does anyone have any suggestion for solving it? I have a tracking sheet I use to manage my portfolio, and this behavior seriously messes with it's 'historical trending' :-(

Thanks in advance for any assistance with this annoying issue:-)

Regard,

Harry

Temporary glitches like that are most likely an issue with either the data
source or with your communications. If you are doing a large number of
RCHGetYahooQuotes() functions, I'd recommend trying to do them all with as
few array-entered invocations as you can.

If you are accessing a significant number of web pages, that may also cause
issues. For example, I sometimes have issues when I do a lot of retrievals
from Amazon.com -- when I go to the browser, they tell me my IP address has
been doing too many request within a short time. I wait 10 or 20 minutes,
and everything is back to normal.

Hmm - that MIGHT be it, but I'm not certain I'm using a stock marketing tracking spreadsheet that I obtained from 'fool.com'. It's called 'Options Tracker' and was created by one of their customers.

I've been using it for years, and only very recently started to experience this problem:-( I have it set to retrieve data from Yahoo, but the same thing happens when I point it to MSN or MarketWatch.

If you are familiar with that spreadsheet, perhaps you know what's going on. If not, I will have to dig into the macros that are used to perform the update.

Thanks for the quick response!

Regards,

Harry

I'm not familiar with a TMF "Options Tracker" workbook.

MSN would be difficult to get option quotes from. They don't even have
option ticker symbols on their option chain web pages, so you'd need to do
the scraping by parsing through to figure out which line is the right
strike price.
