Adding on to tc_nyc85's comment, Yahoo's dividends are listed by their ex-div date.
While it is a convenient function (I use it myself sometimes), the Nasdaq table lists each of the key dividend dates in case you want it by, say, payment or announce date instead.

I am not understanding you, sorry.
Can I just put in =rchgetyahoohistory("ticker",,,,,,,"v"), where "ticker" in my case is C3, and I will get the annual dividends over the last 10 years? I don't know what is an array or how to do it.
Regards,
Marc

What I use to get dividend history is the RCHgetyahoohistory function (which when entered as an array gets you the dividend history). The syntax is as follows =rchgetyahoohistory("ticker",,,,,,,"v"). Make sure you include the V, that's what tells it you want the dividend history).

Because we describe how to retrieve dividend history. Once you have that you can chart it any way you like.

You can also use the RCHGetYahooHistory function as already described. I think the Yahoo history goes back further than Nasdaq - you'll have to look into that if you want lots of history.

I guess it's beyond simple then...
When I do the RCHGetYahooHistory function I simply get back the word "Date". Does someone have dividend history for 10 years in their Excel spreadsheet (just that piece) that they can send me?
Thanks,
Marc

You just need to enter it as an array formula. Search the conversations, see the help, or Google excel and array formula. It's well covered.
A specific example for Yahoo dividend history is in the Files / Templates section of this group. See SMF-Template-Yahoo-Historical-Quotes.xls. It is setup for pricing. To get dividends the trick is to put a "V" in the "period" box. You can blank out the "items" flags.

The "date" value is just one value in the array. Select an array of cells that's 2 columns by 15 rows. Hit F2 and type in =rchgetyahoohistory("aapl";,,,,,,,"v") (entering the ticker you want) and then hit control shift enter. You can also put the ticker in a cell so it's easy to change. The date by default will be formatted as a number, you should format it as a date.

I don't get the symptoms you describe when I use the formula. It opens it clean right away, and updates any time I open the workbook, or run the smfForceRecalculation macro. To double-check, I just cut and pasted the formula that was repeated in your message, and it worked fine here.

For example, the first few rows and first few columns look like this:

Holdings
Weighting
Type
Ticker
Style
Apple Inc 2.96 EQUITY AAPL Large Core
Exxon Mobil Corporation 2.43 EQUITY XOM Large Value
Google, Inc. Class A 2.05 EQUITY GOOG Large Growth
Microsoft Corporation 1.74 EQUITY MSFT Large Core
Johnson & Johnson 1.6 EQUITY JNJ Large Value
Did you array-enter it over a range?

That is exactly right Cris, thanks for clarifying! They are awesome, automated spreadsheets, but the data sources seem to have changed. I would definitely be interested as well if anyone has taken the time to do this already! It would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks,
Matt
